ec 125 questions

Hey been awhile since i have been on. I currently own a 02 de 250 which is where i learned to respect the gaggas marque. Not much info anywhere on the ec 125. I have a chance to get a 04 ec 125 which looks to be clean but needs top end and 1 st gear. Don't mind the project, even though its in a box. Questions though, when looking up weights of these bikes it seems to weight the same as my 250. I know internet claims are bs but they all seem to be @ same weight. 95 kg seems to be weight of most gassers on the net. And all seat heights are 37 inches regardless? This can't be true can it? I know 200 to 300 are cut from same mold. But 125 must be a smaller and lighter frame, piston rods crank, swing arm etc etc to get this thing to less than a 250.

I have always wanted to try a 125 in the woods, just for fun, and this might be the project, but am i going to wind up with a bike as big, as tall, and as heavy as my 250? I was hoping for a 210 lb bike done where as my 250 i would guess is 230 realistically. Does the 125 feel much smaller and lighter, like the yz125 vs yz 250? I am small @ 5'5" and 140 and would love to goof off on a 125.

I'll start by saying I don't know on the weight numbers. With that, I don't think it matters. The 125 is a very light feeling bike. It is fun and handles like a toy. I really think you would enjoy the bike at your size. The seat height on a 2004 is the same as your 250. These are all pretty short dirt bikes. At 5'5" you would probably be in heaven on a Honda crf 230, but it weighs more than the truck you will haul it in.

Do you,have you owned, or have you ridden this bike? My conundrum (sp) ? Is that if its the same frame,suspension,plastics,and ergos, how much could it feel different than my 250? If they are the same other than engine,can't be much difference can it? I have ridden yz 125 and 250. Totally different animals. As are husky wr 125 and 250. If the frames are in fact 125 specific then feeling would likewise follow. Unfortunetly as stated before, reviews of this bike are non existent from what I have found. I'm probably going to do it because for no other reason I can, but I would love to go into this with a little info on what to expect. Also from trying to source parts seems 125s parts are not stocked as readily as 250 and 300. As parts are stated to have to be ordered from Spain.

I had an 02 EC125 and a 03 DE200 at the same time. The 200 was my race bike and the 125s job was (1) give the wife a bike to ride (2) give me a play around bike (3) be a rolling spare parts bin for the 200. Most everything will interchange with your 250 except the main frame (subframe is same) and engine assembly. They compare with one another the way a YZ125 and YZ250 do. Seat height was the same stock, I changed the dogbones to lower the rear and raised the forks in the clamps a bit on the 125 to fit her 5' 7 inch height. Like the Yamaha the 125 and 250 are totally different animals. I would expect a considerable weight difference since the 125 engine was tiny compared to the 200/250/300 but the difference actually riding it is huge - the thing felt like a mountain bike. It was a blast to ride, I raced it once when I was between bikes. Just FYI though I can say its the only GasGas I've ever owned that ever fouled a spark plug, had an engine failure, and was slow.

My GG 125 time was spent on my sponsor's own bike. A 2007 MC 125. It was a fantastic machine. Super fun to ride. It feels light, and goes straight, but also turns. I wrung it out in consideration for purchasing a 125 to qualify for the ISDE, but the 250F advantage is too big, so I went with the EC 250. For outright fun, the 125 is a great bike. It does indeed feel way lighter, and handles very easily.

I'd compare it to a aluminum framed YZ 125 with a broader spread of power (barely), a slightly wider ratio tranny (faster on top), and suspension that isn't quite as good. Overall though. A top notch bike.

I have a GasGas 125 fron 2011.
The only and bigges difference betwenn the 125 and the other is the engine case.
The 125 has a own, smaller and lighter engine case. The frame, fork, swing arm, etc. etc. etc. is the same like the other. But this engine case makes about 20lbs weight difference and this makes an enourmous handling difference.
Everytime when I ride the 250 or 300 from a friend, I am very happy to go back to my lightweight 125. It is much more fun for me.
The power output is about 30-35 hp
