A good place to start is to raise the deck height so that the transfers are completly open at b.d.c. the head will then have to be corrected to compensate for the looser squish and loss of compression. Most of the power potential is in the head. That along with a proper rev pipe and reeds will get you started. R.B.D.'s carb mod will give you substancial high rpm gains by virtue of the sheer ammount of extra air you will move. After that your gonna have to get out the porting tools.

The best way to get top end power is with the right pipe and jetting.

I have used the FMF, Doma and stock GG pipes. The FMF Gnarly pipe signs off very early. The Doma on my '01 XC300 and the stock GG pipe on my '06 EC300 are nearly identical. The stock GG pipe and Doma are much smoother and have much more top end power than the FMF Gnarly.

My real world dyno is a hill. On a steep dirt hill, my '01 XC300 with the FMF Gnarly was only able to pull 3rd gear at a moderately high RPM. When I put on the Doma pipe, I could pull 4th gear screaming at a much higher RPM than with the FMF pipe in 3rd gear. It was a huge difference.

If I recall corectly,Glenn found out that the earlier year FMF Fatty pipe was the same as the Gnarly - it just doesn't produce much high RPM power.

Thanks for all your help eric that has helped me make my mind up i want a doma, will newer pipes fit, like of a 2005/06 or something. thanks

The messico pipe is the best for top end. I too have a FMF Gnarly and find it took away alot of top end but huge bottom and mid range gains for sure.

I have a messico but it has snapped, ide like to try something different, the doma sounds similar to the messico so im going to go for that if thats the case. thanks
