EX vs. HARD

Has anyone had any experience with the Metzeler six day EX (stock) vs. HARD front tire? I realize the compound will be harder. The tread pattern is much different on the hard as well. I like the EX but the knobs are chucking off.
Thanks.

Love me some Metzeler Six Days in the sand and loose loam - what kind of terrain are you riding that they chunk off?

I pulled the rear off after nearly no kms at all. Stock front tyre seems quite good in the sloppy conditions we've been having.

Hey Steve.
This is what mine is starting to do.

John - does yours look like this?

So is that just common wear on mine? Or is it due to the terrain I ride?

I'm going to say it's the rocks, unless there has been a compound change or production plant change thrown in that makes them crap. I used to run Michelin S12XCs up front but lately have been buying take-off Metzlers for my personal bikes.

John. What type of terrain for you? Glad someone else. But not in a good way. Now I need to figure out what new front tire for me...?

Rocky, rooty, single track is what I ride the most. Seems the s-12 rear and 6-days front are a popular combo.

Jep i tried the hard version of the metzeler six days and I love it on hard terrain and rocks. It has much more grip and last longer without breaking knobs.

Thanks Elvis74, thats what i wanted to hear. For those in the states I got this tire thru parts unlimited.

How would you rate the S12XC against the old S12 ? I still run an S12 on front but it's not manufactured any more, only the S12XC .

The S12XC would loose its grip on the top of sandy berms and corners. Did not inspire confidence at all.
That was the last tire I ran before going back to the Metz last month.

Agree, they are as good as the standard ex everywhere except grass tracks and mud ( but not far off) and last better.

An mc4 metzeler on the back and you have a very versatile setup.
