FMF Stealth silencer update!!

Some great news I just received from Dale Malasek the US Gas Gas importer.

FMF will be building the new Stealth silencer for the Gas Gas bikes. They provided FMF a bike to get all the fitting correct. This is for the 07-09 bikes and I'm unsure if this will work on the older pre 07 models. I'll see if I can get any info on that.

While quite large this silencer will be the most quiet one you can get for the Gassers and still have a S/A.

Is this new FMF silencer being designed for
the 4-stroke or the 2-stroke?
Just curious.
I live under 10 miles from the FMF factory
here in L.A. If necessary. I might be able
to provide some assistance if needed.
I have a 98 and an 02 EC if they need
to fit check to an older bike.

This new silencer is designed to fit the 07-09 2 strokes. It would be really GREAT if you could loan them your bike to check fitment for the pre 07 bikes so they could make one for those as well.

I guess there is the possibility that the silencer will fit earlier bikes but I really don't know on this. Maybe Go-Fasters would know?

Why? They already have the specs to make it. They have been making the TC2 for the GG for years now.

To be sure of any potential clearance issues. The Stealth is quite large compared to the TC2 so you just don't go winging it and assume it's gonna fit correctly and then correct it later if it doesn't fit right. That would be a stupid move IMO to take that chance. What do you think???

Whom should we contact about that? Dale or someone at FMF?
My gg will be sitting around for another month or so before I have
any ride plans. At least the the 2002 will be. My 98 250 is just
about to hit the road as superMoto. I mounted the tire to the
rear 17" wheel last night. The rest of the transformation should
be complete by this weekend.

I would contact Dale so either he can put you in touch with the right person or he can do it. I have already asked him about the earlier bikes but he usually takes his sweet time getting back to me. Send him off an e-mail offering up your bike for fitting and see where it goes from there. If all else fails call FMF and work your way up the ladder until you find someone who actually makes decisions. Persistence pays off generally and I think in this case it did. I'm sure FMF doesn't want to hear from me again about the Stealth for the Gassers LOL.

I think it would be great to have the actual bike, but I have to believe they have all the data they should need. I think it's more of a $$$ decision.

(bump) for this thread.
Any news from Dale or FMF on the Q-silencer
for the GasGas?
A friend just got one for his orange pumpkin 300.
It looks nice. Maybe 30-40% larger in volumn than
a TC2. He said it did not seem to (him) that it made
a big difference in the sound level. I did not hear the
bike as it was in the back of his truck when I saw
the pipe.
I would be interested in trying one on my EC300 and
possibly the EC250SM also.
Thanks, Jeff

End of February it should be ready is what Dale told me.

Here is a pic for you....

My Q Stealth arrived yesterday, I'll try and get it mounted up tonight and take some pictures. I also have the equipment to perform the J1287 sound standard, so I'll do a before and after test. I'm really hoping for mid to high 80's.

Awesome, look forward to pics and sound test as I want to pull the trigger on one of these Stealths.

I would love to hear if it fits on older models. It would be sweet to get my MC250 quieter than the TC2 makes it.

My buddy has an '05 DE250, I can certainly check and see if it will fit or see what might need to be done to make it fit.

Ok, got the Q Stealth ('08 EC300) mounted up tonight and I wasn't dissappointed. The Motorcycle Industry Council has no test RPM listed for the GasGas so I used the formula in J1287; 306,000 divided by the stroke in Millimeters (72) = 4250 test RPM.

- Turbine Core 2 with about 100 miles on it - 91.8 db

- Q Stealth with a ride around the block - 85.7 db

Sound is very subdued and a little throatier. Fits well, does hit the plastic just where the can starts, but not into it real hard, is a little longer by about 3/4's of an inch. I was going to take pictures, but I noticed the white 300 earlier in this thread, so everyone knows what it looks like.

I'm pretty pleased with the reduction in sound.:D

Taking it up to work on our Enduro course this weekend, so I'll try and have a ride report early next week.
