I had to lower my front forks to fit the clamps for my handgaurds, is there a spec they should be at? I made the bottom of the cap flush with the clamps, before there was about 2mm of black fork tube showing
That is personal preference, as a general rule- the lower the forks in the clamp the more stable the front end at the expense of steering. The higher the forks are the sharper the steering will be at the expense of high speed stability
Like Fred said. It will change the distribution of weight between the front and back, and they both have to work together. That means there is no hard and fast rule as to whats right or wrong. I personally like the sharper steering but if it ever shows some head shake I'll either add a little more sag at the rear, or lower the forks in the clamps a little until it settles.
