frame coating

Hi my gg has the silver coated frame and is at that point of its life where it look like crap.
what is the coating and is it something I can remove or is it a job for the grit basters.

It's probably powdercoat. If you are going to have it re-coated, any of the powdercoaters Iv'e dealt with will blast it first.

If you want to remove it yourself most off the shelf paint strippers like Aircraft Remover will work.

In 2003 or 2004 GasGas started powder coating their frames. 99-2002 they were nickle plated.

My 03 is nickel plated as well.

Fortunately there should be chrome platers around who have done nickel frames before in the UK. They will be able to strip, repolish and nickel so it looks great again. Paint won't stick as is.

01 300, 03 250...both nickel.

I picked up a basket case 2004 that was already sand blasted. I used automotive rim/wheel paint from Autozone with a clear coat top coat over it and it appears to be holding up pretty well.

I've got a 2002 ec200 that had a tatty looking frame so I got on it with a wire drill bit.
Looks alright to me
