Frustration ^2

I got my gaskets yesterday, 13 days after I ordered them.
Many of them are wrong - either wrong bike or wrong place on my bike.
Water outlet gasket is way too big (I ordered two, great). Maybe a later model bike, or just plain wrong bike... I dunno. It's not like I didn't say that everything was for a 2001 xc300
Center crankcase gasket that I didn't order. Who knows if that's correct for a 2001. Always something extra that I didn't order from this vendor too.

Base gaskets look funny compared to the circa 2001 gasket I used a few months ago. Not sure about that... I'll know later today

The boys are riding this weekend. Will I be there?
It's not looking good, unless I blow off work so I can play parts detective and then buy overnight shipping.

missing the season:(
trying a new vendor:mad:

Just deal with Smith's Powersports in Imperial PA, or Hall's. They both stock a lot and know the bikes, excellent dealers. I have had some screw ups myself from other vendors in the past, I attributed it to cheap summer help that did not give a crap.

i'm assuming you mean the water outlet on the cylinder head? there are several different ones.... i just make mine, a sheet of gasket paper, a set of punches and an exacto have fixed many last minute problems......

there are 3 different thicknesses of base gasket.. i believe they're all the same aside from thickness....

The vendor is attempting to fix the problem. Thanks.

Yes, that's the gasket. And I made the last two myself also. I just was trying to make the order worth everybody's time. And I never mind having the details look correct.

In a case where there are several different this or that, I would help the customer determine which one is the desired item.

I wouldn't have worried about the thickness of the base gasket until I wandered into this nut-house. :p A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Anybody know what the three thicknesses are? These are looking like ~0.59mm ? (one is just a spare, I'm not starting stacking and carving).

Thanks again to the vendor for getting on top of it.

the three sizes of base gaskets allow you to fine tune your compression/port timing in your motor. hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in and let you know what a good baseline setup is.

Here are two of the water outlet variations. My 2001 bike's head uses the smaller one, which I was told began in 2003.

Make note which one you have and be specific wherever you order.

always ahead of my time

I always keep a supply of gaskets for these last minute repairs.

Yeah, I'm double stocked on most now.

Whatever that Boy Scouts thing was about being prepared...
I need to work on that... more.

The carb rebuild kit was not part of this story, in case that confused anybody (besides me).

The best place Ive found for parts is Halls. After a couple of botched orders from the guys that are suposed be the Gasgas specialists I started dealing with Halls. They are very knowledgable and easy to get on the phone or email, they ship fast and affordable to California.

I think I know who we are talking about here..... I ordered gaskets as well and, well, a month later most of the order showed up..... but the quantities are not right...........but the bike is running fine so I'll wait on what I wanted to do.

Halls? I'll look into it.

+1 on Halls.

I ordered a 1 oz. $2 part from the other guys and it came with $12 shipping and handling their reasoning was that USPS might lose the order. My thought was, send 3 of them in separate envelopes they probably won't lose all 3 and it would still cost 1/2 as much.

So,my riding partner decided to take the slop out of his powervalve himself and took off the water pump cover destroying the gasket in the process. I got one at the local dealer for him last Saturday: Wrong size for the 2010 300. The dealer ordered one up plus some for stock and I went there today and saw him pull the unopened GG Factory (Spain) bag of gaskets out of the shipping box. The part number was correct for a 2010 300 on the bag but the gaskets were not correct inside. It looks like the factory maybe the cause of this when it comes to packaging parts for the distributors and dealers. I sure hope someone is on the phone with the factory trying to get the 2012s powervalves adjusted correctly, the forks assembled properly, and their parts packaged properly. The folks on this site know how to get around these things: What about the rest of the GG "Noobies"? (no slight against "our" Noobie as he's one of us!)

*sigh*

I guess bikes with the big water spigot also have a larger water pump.

Old gasket underneath. It's a subtle difference that you might not notice until you have coolant all over the floor.

Good thing I have just enough gasket material.

Nice job with the gasket making. Tip for those who don't have hole punches: you can use the brass from spent ammo cases; works like a charm. BTW +2 on the Hall's parts we get all our Husky and GG parts from them they are awesome.
