fuel pump for 400fse

My local dealer just informed me that my fuel pump needs replacing at $500 .First of all,why so expensive? So I'm asking anybody if they may have a extra fuel pump for 2003 400fse kicking around they might want sell or can direct me to a dealer that might sell them cheaper than what my dealer is offering.Any help would be appreciated cause my wife is really starting have second thoughts on my baby.

There was an 02 FSE being bounced from dealer to dealer here. Turned out it's fuel pump was whacked so I did a bit of investigating. Best way is replace the FI with a 36 mm dellorto but it doesn't fit. So to modify the tank pour in hot water and massage until the carb fits.

BTW I didn't buy it 'cause of that models starting probs.
