Hi guys, had my 250 now for 2 months or so but it still seems extremely heavy compared to other bikes I've used (crf 250, kx 125, ktm 125)

I understand the above bikes aren't similar but my GG feels so much heavier to the point I am considering another bike, is it normal they weigh a lot or do they weigh similar to other similar bikes (e.g ktm 250 exc)

It's not as heavy as you think. Maybe 5-10lbs heavier. My '99 weighs 263lbs.

when you say heavier do you mean when riding or off the bike? i.e. do you mean when you moving it around the garage or it feels heavy to turn etc? just wondering if its riding could if be suspension need setting up?

For the record a 2003 CR250 weighs 253 and a 2005 kx250 weighs 258. That completetly set up for woods

Please clarify "completely set up for woods"

2003 CR 250 curb weight 213 lbs.
Ill give you 8 pounds for fluids. Not fuel.
where is this 32 extra pounds coming from.

Skid
Pipe guard
Gnarly
Hand guards
Flywheel weight
Stock tank 2 gal

Fuel of fuel ready to ride.

I don't believe a single manufacturer. Also I have 2 fairly identical klx300's and they are 7 lbs different. I suspect its mostly tires.

Here is another one for you.

2005 KX250 258lbs
Gnarly
13oz flywheel
Billet triples
Skids
IMS tank
Full of fuel ready to ride

We have weighed several bikes. And again this is on a very accurate scale. Not a bathroom scale. I also verified with my bike at a UPS shipping center. We were truly surprised at the weights.

Im not saying your bikes dont weigh that.

I have built many woodzerized Jap 2 stroke 250s over the years and you are about 20 pounds higher then any Jap bike Ive ever built.
We arent big on armor plating or flywheel weights, but thats still not enough weight to account for that 20 lbs

In the spirit of this thread Im just wondering what other riders experiences have been over the years.

Bottom line the the EC 250 weighs a hell of alot more then the bikes we have been comparing it too.
And our KTM 250 exc falls in the middle of that.

260's sounds about right from my memory. I couldn't find my notes to confirm. But I weighed my 06 250, ready to ride with I believe the 3.X gal tank and 260 something sounds about right.

Munch here you go.Lets just cut the shit and Ill lay it out for you.

Im taking Hadfields 5-10 pounds right off the top.Im taking the full 10 for the engine alone.
The 200-250-300 Gasser engine is a beast.Nobody who is familiar with the Gasser engine and a Jap 250 moto engine is going to argue that.

Lets compare the 03 CR 250 to the 03 Ec250.
Ill give you some weight for the offroad approved silencer for the CR 250 youll have to swap out.
Ill give you the skid plate too if its a must have.

Heres the rest of the weight.
Hydraulic clutch system over cable
The swing arm and chain gaurd on the Gasser is beefier
The frame is beefer, why because its a Gssser and the Fed DOT requires the frame to be gusseted if its to be used as onroad-offroad-dual sport motorcycle.Which the EC model was
The bike has lights- brake sending switches and a headlight and a brake light and lighting coil and some extra wiring and s handlebar switch.
The CR gets a front number plate.
A Gasser fuel tank is heavy.
Kickstand-beefier pegs.
I cud keep piling it on.

Theres more.But its negligble.
So all bullshit aside.
The Gasser is a mighty and beautiful beast thats a bit on the hefty side.

Is their anybody familiar with the bikes we are discussing disagree with my comparisons and why the GasGas EC is just heavier?

I agree and those extra GG 10 pounds are distributed pretty well and in the right places to make for a sturdy bike that lasts! It is hard to shave significant weight without reducing durability.

On a related note, I recently got back into mountain bikes and I found a cool light weight bike with an aluminum frame that was dented on the top tube by the brake lever and there is significant concern over the structural durability of the frame because it was so thin. Then you ask yourself about durability when you fall or dump your bike down a hill etc.
