GasGas 2010

Just curious, when can we expect an official announcement from Spain on the 2010 Gassers?

I'm planning on getting a new bike for next year. If there's major improvements to the 2010 (captive fasteners has been rumoured, e-start might be nice) then I'll pony up for one of those, otherwise I'll save some coin and get a 2009.

i'll take an e-start bike as well. half the group that i ride with, have the katoomie 300 e-start bikes. young or old, fast or slow-e-start is an atvantage!i'm waiting to see/hear what's coming from spain in 2010. as much as i love my gasser,i have to admit, the 300 katomie is a pretty nice bike. i'm afraid my decesion will be based on bikes with and with out e-start being way up on the list..

And you will be able to get that KTM used for pennies on the dollar. With every man and his dog riding a pumkin these days what do you think that will do for resale when dealers are no longer taking them in exept for a zero trade in allowence because of a market glut of used e start ktm two strokes?

WIDEBEAR- THAT WILL PUT THEM IN THE SAME CLASS AS A USED GASSER! DON'T GET ME WRONG,AS MUCH AS I LIKE MY BIKE-THE RESALE ON THEM IS NUTHIN' TO WRITE HOME ABOUT.NOT TO MENTION THE TIME IT TAKES TO FIND A BUYER FOR ONE.

Correct. So all things being equal why would you opt for the lesser bike? By the way our friend Coughlan had to replace his damaged clutch slave on his xc 450 @ $320 + tax. So,
@ 100 hrs he's allready into it for $1000.00 in repairs, failed cam and rocker plus labour plus clutch slave and about the same in suspension work on top of the 9 grand for the original purchase price for the bike, but hey he's got e start. Amazingly competent bike, but.

I personally don't care about estart, but I certainly respect you guys that do. Wonder if the estart will be an option or are you stuck with it? I hope they don't stick a big lead acid battery up high, rather go with a small LiPo in the bottom of the airbox. I'd like to see some details refined like the kickstart, brake pedal and shifter, better filter cage, stronger wheels, and maybe a factory version of the adjustable PV mechanism.

Little birdie told me the e-start EC300 around December time frame.

Hopefully they learned a bit from KTM's teething issues and get it just right. Thank you KTM:D

Kicking over a 2t isn't all that tough in fact mine is easy - on level ground ... but try it on a hill that is so steep that you'll slide backwards even with both brakes locked up.
I don't know if I would spend extra for electric start but I do know that when I ride here in Livingston, TN there is several times each ride where e-start would wonderful.

I have such hills near my house, one with ledges and loose rocks. Estart will be eaiser no doubt IF you can get going again on the face of the hill without going back down.

I could hardly care personally, but KTM def sold a ton of those bikes b/c of e start here. The woods I ride in have some very very nasty sections with ugly wet rock gardens etc, and the older dudes who really love the nasty really really love that feature. So that being said, if it helps GG sell bikes they should really make it an option.

As long as we're "debating"e-start...

I wrote it off as an unnecessary "luxury" until I started riding with two guys who had the button on KTM 300s... I now am enlightened :D

Removes the significant hassle of starting in all weird conditions, hills, slopes, ruts. I can remember times during a race where I didn't think I had the gas to kick the thing again... Kill the thing while rolling too slow or wrong gear for a bump start and you can pull the clutch and hit the button. While racing one could save quite a few secs not having to reach down, swing out the kicker, kick, etc.

And THE biggest advantage is the damn footpeg wouldn't eat the sole on my right boot :D

I won't see e-start until they enter the cheap used bike market and I don't think it would sway me to a KTM. I do I think GG should get going on it so there's one available when my time comes.

s/sbob: i too love the tough nasty stuff, for playing in.and yes that's when a button would be really nice.dangling on 2 toes and three fingers, swattin flies and kickstarting an off balance bike is an aquired skill that does take practice!i've got a 525 exc for dualsporting/baja trips, and let me tell ya-it doesn't take long to get used to the button start bikes.

A heavy 4-stroke, or any 4-stroke is an entirely different matter. They stall more, and when they do and stop moving you get bathed in engine heat. Add the generally taller seat heights, more top heavy feel to manage, and the last thing you need to do is kick it 10 times on a hill in the steamy woods in mid summer.

Hey, if GG can do it and make it reliable, with little weight penalty, then fine. I see it only as a marketing tool to compete with KTM, if the KTM never had it GG wouldn't even think about it. Its only on the 300 right? I would not want this forced upon me, but rather an option. Does anyone know if the estart KTM300s were as big a hit in Europe as they are here?

IMO this post pretty much sums up why the e-start is so nice to have. I get really tired of reading "but a 2 stroke is just so easy to kick start". Obviously you have never been caught in one of those situations. Enlightened is a very good description I believe.

It adds 7-10lbs. The Gasser is already 10 lbs heavier than the KTM with the e-start so it will come with a large weight penalty for sure unless GG can figure out a way to cut some of the pork out of the bike. However...with weight does come a more planted and stable feel. Yes, I believe the 300 only will get it initially.

As for KTM it was really a forced popularity. You had no choice. It ws an option here I believe the first year but most bikes ended up with it. Now there is no choice either here or Europe or wherever. Yes you can remove it and install the XC cover but when it works right people are "enlightened" as rpduc mentioned. 2010 KTM improved the mechanism.

im a little confused at the moment. my friend has just told me that he saw, in the flesh, a blue gasgas300 with electric start.... he swears that it was a gasgas. i didnt know there was any gasgas with e-start around yet?
