GasGas at Dakar 2018

Thats great to see GG back in rallye raid. I am addicted to following the Dakar, now we have three GGs to follow. I can't wait 41 days to go:)

Harry Google Lyndon poskit for some super Malle moto coverage this year. Should be epic, not the usual 5 mins we get from aso

It seems that we will see GG team on these old Yamaha-based bikes this Dakar. It may be not so bad idea considering that getting the new team structure in place is a huge task in itself. So this Dakar will probably be some sort of rehearsal for much bigger things to come.

Team and bikes will be presented on 19th - we'll see :)

have any of these ever been available in the states? I'd give my eye teeth to be able to get my hands on one since seeing the FS515(?)

So - it is public now. GasGas will run white-framed KTMs (called Husqvarnas) on this edition of Dakar. And...this is actually very good news. It shows that GasGas is actually very-very serious about future success and is willing to invest in running in their team before their own bike finally arrives - which is probably in year or two. I think GasGas will run KTM bike on rallies in 2018 and will introduce their own bike in 2019 alongside with a new 450 engine.

Isn't chasing the 4t dream one of the prime factors in their bankruptcy? Don't get me wrong I'd love to see them return as a player in rally raid but it is a very expensive format to race. Probably the most expensive in offroad.

Maybe they have a few left over.

Even if they do. Which I doubt. They would never sell them to the public.

Totally against the business model of the Torrot/GasGas company.

There seems to be some odd backdoor access to the website that holds all the old model pages that can be accessed through google search links.

Look. I can do the same thing with other models just by googling the specific model name.

Very odd.

I know it is listed as 2014.

Just wondering if there is a 2018-19-20 equivalent.

The Sherco and TM 300Fs are highly thought of.

What motor was the 2014 GG 300F?

Nothing confirmed. At this point GasGas only makes 2T and Electric bikes.
There are reliable rumours that they intend to make a completely new 4T motor that will not be based on anything owned or used by the previous GasGas company. But the rumours haven't included displacement information. It would seem to reason that a 450 and 300 or 350 will be the first to market.

I'd expect to see an announcement about a 4T line sometime in the next year. Possibly for a 2019 release. Gonna be a hard sell for them though since many Gasser fans are also 2T fans. I have faith they will succeed.

IIRC the 300F was a modified Yamaha WR250F motor. But don't quote me on that. I'd going totally off my memory which seems to be in short supply lately.

Yes, it was a Yamaha motor with an Athena big bore kit.

Old news but the "new" 4T engine can be from old Husqvarna iventory.

* This was claimed to be the lightest 4T 250cc engine in the market.
* Engine is ready and I hope they keep financial healthy this time.
* Husky owners tested it before and few engine issues is known and can be fixed now.

There was a GasGas 315cc prototype on EICMA 2014 with this engine:

GasGas/Torrot people have been on this site confirming that they will not be using the old Husky tech that they had purchased. Any move to a 4T engine will be a completely new in house designs. So unless they backpedal on that decision I doubt we'll ever see that Italian Husky motor again.
Remember that this isn't just GasGas anymore. Torrot has seriously deep pockets and really wants to see success.
