One for the good guys.....

I had my 2011 ec300e stolen on Christmas Day, whilst I was working and my wife was away at family celebrations. We had moved into our new home on 21/12...welcome to the hood! Supposedly a good suburb.

I loved the bike and had spent a lot of time getting it good for me...as you can imagine I was not happy. The saving grace was insurance and a new for old clause for under two years from purchase. Roll the drums...2013r.

On Thursday we got a call from the local police saying they had found my bike, so yesterday we went in and had a look at it, stickers removed, side stand broken off at frame, pipe bent hand guards gone etc etc. The policeman rode mx, has had a bike stolen in the past and is obviously interested in bikes.the officer saw the gg,thought to himself "nice bike" saw the new "owners" pushing the bike as fast as they can in the opposite direction, thought " those sort of people only get a bike like that one way" and thought he'd take a look, usual b s story and a VIN number check and they are busted, they forgot to fill up before riding it, suckers.

Being honest, I rang the insurer and said I had my bike back in possession, they said its not your bike, your bike is at the dealer as they have presented the cheque.... I argued for 5 seconds then said ok, I'll take the bike.

Leave your bike empty and have insurance and all will be fine

Cheering!!!

Good story. Glad the thievin' bastards got caught. Even better that you got two new bikes in such a short period of time.;) Of course, the setup is a hassle, but still fun.

They had thrashed the bike pretty hard, it has a5 hr old irc m5b rear tyre on it and it was almost to the casing, on the centre knobs only, burn out world.

The insurance co now auction all their recovered bikes, I think I'm not allowed to bid, new laws.

So payments cleared! I better get those needls in the post soon! Just waiting on the others to return and I'll post em back down to you for some half clip variations :) All good Simmo

So where does this leave you with the insurance agency? Do you get to retain the written off bike? Can you buy it back from the insurance company for the right price. Will they notice/know if say, it didn't have the S3 head, or the Ohlins inserts in it when it was stolen?

The bike stayed at the cop shop and the insurance co had their recovery guy come and pick it up, I technically didn't own it from when they decided it was total loss and replaced, usually 4 weeks after its disappearance. I felt pretty bad that I get a new bike, but they copper assured me that the bikes are usually badly in need of maintenance, to say the least, so a new bike is a good option.

All the extras were claimed as well ( emai receipts were sufficient), hence the 300r not 300e, due to my upgraded suspension and no way of upgrading the 45 zokes. The claims team were excellent and knowledgeable... Can't recommend nrma highly enough.

Funnily enough, the reason the copper looked twice was that my bike had no stickers, at all....and he knew that's what dumb hoods do thinking it makes a bike look old, this copper new his bikes and new it was a late model gasgas and he had a 2009 250sx himself (double respect).

Thanks for the needles again, could you send back the jd sheet as well? I had to send that to the insurers.

Cheering!

Congratulations Simmo :) The new bike is a heaps better deal. Don't feel bad. Its your reward for being a good honest person and truly, the old bike would never feel the same. Great to hear that the insurance company has worked with you so well too.

I'll see if I can find the piece of paper for you. I can't recall what I did with it as it was ages ago that I took the needle out. Its probably still in the bible. If not you can always email JD and get the specs from him. From memory it was 42 JD RED#4 180 as a starting point for sea level 20C. I'll still have a look!

I couldn't find the JD printout you sent me.. However found this saved in my Gasser documents. I'll still check the actual box of jets I have before sending the mail. If not hope it helps.

Note the typo under the 38mm carb note for altitude or high temps. It says 168,165,162 etc. I believe these should read 178,175 and 172 (makes sense really)
