Gearing. What are you running?

Just curious what everyone is running for gearing, and for what displacement.

I am at 13/48 on my 300 and 13/49 on the 250. I feel I may need to go to a 51 tooth rear on the 250, as it lacks the low range torque that the 300 produces.

On my 300 I had 13/48 (oem) changed to 12/48 for tech trails and for the roof of Africa I fitted 13/51. I think I will go back to 12/48 when I replace sprockets next not so much from a gearing point of view but the handling. I think the 12/48 had the rear wheel sit a little further back

I think I may have a 50 or a 51 in my garage? I will check tomorrow morning when I get off work and let you know?

Wouldn't the 12/48 give you a shorter wheel base because of the smaller sprockets?

the chain has two smaller gears to go around so you have to move the axle back to take up the slack.

Ahh...yes. I am a little slow sometimes.

As Mark Twain said: “It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.”

13-50 here. Still does 100km/hr OK. Doesn't have a whole lot left after that though. 120km/hr is the very upper limit.

I was having a play race with some random the other weekend. I was cruising along at 80 when they passed. A few minutes later decided to have a chase and see if I'd catch them. Did in a few corners as they'd gone into cruise mode too. Anyway, we both got into it. Their YZ450F would clearly pull away down the straights but in the corners the GG would make up any ground lost and more. Max speed on my speedo read 115km.

I would bet if you play raced a 450F in a technical rock garden, the 450 would not be making up any lost ground:D

I'm like Matt I prefer a 4/1 ratio (13/52 or 12/48) gearing for my 250 and I like my handling better with the 12/48 set up also. Sprocket wear doesn't seem to be any different with 12/48 than it is with 13/52.

13/51

Stock was 48, I had trouble keeping in the power band. Went to 50 and it was vast improvement and finally ended up with a 51, which is perfect for the more technical sandy riding that I do. I have immediate grunt and power on tap at any RPM.

200 13-50,occasionally a 52 would be better, but for 95% time this gearing suits fine if you dont mind a little clutch work in the real tight stuff.
