GG vs Japan AND the mag controversy

I assure you an '07 GasGas is nothing like the '99. GGs evolved with a few small refinements each year that add up, no major changes to fix big problems because big problems did not really exist. People see the classic perimiter frame for a few years and assume the bike has not changed. It has changed, but in an evolutionary not revolutionary way. The '08 seat is supposed to be softer if that means anything to you.

KTM has been jerking around with that PDS for ten years now and it still sucks compared to a good link bike. The '07 GG is very ridable in the rocks with stock valving, can be fine tuned, but its not far off. The same cannot be said for an '07 KTM, and if they couldn't get PDS to work great off the showroom floor in the last nine years, why would you expect '08 to be any different?

You just have to ride the bike, thats it.

Other than the owner setting his '99 up for very fast MX, I'd say that the '99 was at least on-par with the '04 to possibly '06 KTMs I've ridden.

I liked the GG300 motor better than the KTM300 motor. The GG seemed to rev better and had just a bit more vibration than a KTM250.

I didn't get the Gasser on a turn course so I didn't get an impression on that. Just a couple miles of rolling jeep trails.

I don't even read the big CA based mags anymore. Not worth the paper there printed on for an objective unbiased bike test.

Ain't that the truth! I haven't read a test in a magazine and believed it since....ummmm....1971! :(

Until I can get my hands on the Oct-2007 DirtRider issue, this is the best we can get from a review. Not particularly detailed as to the suspension, and the writers spend too much time writing about the EC200 that came shipped with a restricted pipe, but they do talk motor behavior, even if it is a bit too personalized.

Step on the Gas - The GAS GAS Enduro Machines

Published: 01st February 2007

AFTER much speculation in enduro circles over past months that Gas Gas would withdraw its support of the WEC in 2007, the announcement recently that it had signed former World 250cc MX champion Fred Bolley, along with another former motocross talent, Patrick Caps, signalled that the Spanish concern is still very much behind its enduro effort.

If you wanted anymore evidence of Gas Gas’ commitment to the world of enduro racing and manufacturing, then you need look no further than the stunning 2007 EC range of two-stroke machines and the FSR four-stroke.
