I searched for a list of places that we can go ride at without breaking the Law . I did not find one on this site so since I have time I have been searching and here are some areas near me that I have ripped up and fell over at !

anthracite outdoor adventure area
Great well marked area +++++www.readinganthracite.com
Lots of coal pits you need to know were the single track is , it connects to lots of trails when you learn were to go +++++
www.ridelosttrails.com Rocky and n...y have some areas that you like and ride at ?

In Australia it's a bit contentious, we can ride in national parks and state forests as long as you have a registered bike and stick to formed trails, what a formed trail is is the contentious bit. Where I live on the central coast of NSW we have Ourimbah state forest, watagans state forest, Cessnock water board and state forest areas and further north we have the Barrington tops national park and state forests. Literally the birthplace of world champions, it's unreal , there is constantly wet subtropical rainforest, dry eucalypt forest and red clay mountainous logging terrain, dry rocky, wet muddy and flowing black soil single track all in one day. Tires are a constant issue, you need a medium/hard tire like a mx51 rear almost all the time but they suck on red clay, soft fronts are the go as they will grip ok on hard terrain. Very lucky in oz.

Here's another resource I've used to find spots:

http://riderplanet.com/

It's only for the US, but they have a good list (at least in OR and WA - which is only where I've checked).
I like this website but the only problem I've seen here in the SE...usually the descriptions and ratings of the area, are written by SXS drivers or ATV riders. The level of difficulties are way off too. Still...a good tool to find new places.

If only we didn't have winter...

We can darn near ride year round here, I almost went out yesterday but ran out of time doing honey-do's.

Winter is ok by me, thoiugh :D

You can have your NYC, not much of a city person. I am originally from PA...you can have your East Coast too. ;)

Not much of a beach person either...but we do have plenty of water here. I am 5 minutes from a decent sized lake...plus all of the rivers...mountain lakes, etc. Outdoor recreation is nearly endless here...all pretty much out our back door.

Doesn't get much better than this. :D

In Minnesota look on mndnr.gov/ohv. I counted 37 different trails, some are shorter (Snake River Trails- 13 mi. total) others like Martineau trails are pretty extensive. Some you may have to share w/ atvs and jeeps. A couple are old RR ground, pretty flat and too easy to go too fast. If you ride at the Iron Range OHV Recreation Area you may have some trouble getting your bike clean, it's in an iron ore mine/ tailings area. Lots of reddish/ brown dust, grit, etc... but a lot of trails. The Soo Line North Trail (RR) connects to Moose River Trails, Hill City Trail, Lawler Loop and Blind Lake Trails. Minnesota DNR has a trail atlas with all the details.

Mick, I have to agree with you, went through Idaho 2 summers ago on our way to WA. and it has been burned into my memory now.....absolutely beautiful I loved it. Liked Montana and Wyoming too. Hated coming back to NY. (no...not NYC ...farther North)

I have it pretty good I live about 20 minutes from what seems like endless single track. My club puts on an enduro there every year and the trails are well maintained. Always cutting in new and doing trail recovery of trails not used in years.
Then if I get bored with that the ECEA puts on 17 enduro's and 11 hare scrambles.
Anyone who says there is no riding in the Northeast is just wrong and not looking hard enough.

Mick what are those big things in the backround of that lake ? We have sky scrapers but none of those big rocks  People from Pa are the most likely to be born here , live here ,n die here . I still have not figured out why  Whimpy is rite we do have great events here and I have great private land to ride on . But I started this thread to let people know where they can go and ride on land without getting hassled . And yes for the record I am very jealous of the land you have . How about New England any good places up there to ride?

I originally from CT, Northwest corner. We had a ton of cool trail in the late 80's and 90's. I used to trail ride to Southwick enter the 250 and open class run practice and 4 motos and trail ride home. Those were the days.
New England has changed a lot and from what I can see not much left in the way of trail riding. Netra manages to put enduro's and Turkey runs on but land is at a premium.

:D, you should those in person...breath taking. Cities make me feell suffocated, I need a place with some elbow room...why we chose to move here. Wanted to live in a place where I didn't feel like I needed a vacation from.

Some gorgeous country out here.

I got out of PA just over 20 years ago.... then lived in AZ for 20 years...have been here for about a year and half. Moving to a "new" place, great riding was real high on the list...we looked at several Western states before deciding on Idaho...tell ya fellas...it has a little bit of everything. Some of it reminds me of AZ, in town reminds me of PA, up in the mountains reminds me of CO...almost "too much" to do. Which isn't a bad problem to have. ;)

Not sure why people tend not to leave where they grew up, comfort is my guess. I like to explore...is why I got out...PA was a good place to grow up, pretty much been over inch of AZ, down into Baja, etc when I lived there...now the next 20 years or so is exploring here, the PNW, Western Canada and Alaska.

I can be at a trail head in 30 minutes from the house, Heck, in Boise (which is 30 minutes away too) there are trails on the edge of town, right off 8th Street.

I live in Ogden Utah, and have some pretty good single track in north Ogden about 15min from me. I can spend the day riding there. Like most places you have to share with hikers, bikers, and the occasional horse ( with associated horse crap). Farther north in Logan there is a ton of single track to explore but I haven't been that way in years. South of me is some epic single in American Fork Canyon, Provo Canyon, etc. then there is always Green River and Moab for slick rock. Also St. George. Where Fasst is located (actually next door in Washington UT) lot more to explore that way. I've done some pretty awesome riding in Virgin as well, home of the Redbull Rampage. http://www.dirtbikeutah.net Has more stuff that I've ridden and some id like to try.

Mick, for me and probably others, it's family and friends that keeps me from moving. Plus I still have to work, so I have to find a job and buy a house. I agree with Wimpy525 there are plenty of enduros and hare scrambles to ride here in the Northeast, but places to just trail ride...not so much. It was a great trip out West, to see it first hand....it's way better than the pictures show. It's on my mind more and more. I'm lucky to have what I have out my back yard here.

We moved for the better half's work, she is a college professor...so we looked at places where we wanted to live, before she applied anywhere. We bought a house too. I am self employed and can work anywhere.

It wasn't easy for sure, but it can be done. You couldn't pay me enough to move back East. There were couple openings back there, I said no way! ;) :D

That was one of the requirements when we were looking...had to be West of the Rockies, not hot like AZ...and not California. Idaho seem to fit the bill the best. Cost of living is reasonable, can have a high quality of life for not too much coin.

Family, I have some in AZ still...I own a rental house down there still, so I am down a couple times a year, the flight is easy. 3 hours maybe.
