Head on collision....My worst nightmare

This just happened to me yesterday.

I was just cruising along and came around a blind corner. And there was a Yamaha WR 250. We both had about 10 feet in order to stop. I had nowhere to go except for the bank. And he had nowhere to go unless he wanted to go down 50 feet of rocks into a large creek.

Neither of us had body injuries....FRICKING AMAZING!!!!

My radiator guards and recant beefing up saved my radiator. His with no guard bent all the way back to his motor but luckily was not leaking.

My GG suffered:
Broken front fender
Broken left side rad shroud
Trashed my new GasGas TrailTech Vector
Small gouge out of lower triple clamps

I am a bit timid to go out any time soon.

Firstly - glad to hear your ok !

What a stinker though :(

But to be honest with so many people 'haring' around off-road (And pushing the limit somewhat; safe in the knowledge we wont be meeting any cars head on)

.......isnt it any wonder there arent more head-on crashes between bikers ???

Stay safe.

...Glad you made through, uninjured. My recent Tahuya head-on only reaffirmed my hesitation for...let's say "multi-use" trails. I didn't blame anyone for my incident, as we both used common sense, with our speed...Just met in the worst imagineable trough-like blind corner. Unforetunely, I think if one rides long enough, it's bound to happen...at least a scary close call.

I hate to imagine if we would have hit dead on tire to tire.....

we had 2 guys almost do that one day warming up..

broke brake rotor and hub on one bike (front fender also) that bike rider had a bad broken ankle, other rider bike was ok, broke his leg right below knee..

all within site of the trucks (luckily) and not that fast either..

I love riding Taneum single track trails. This happened on Fish Hook Flats just after crossing one of the big bridges.

On the bright side. While it was pouring in Seattle we were enjoying the sun on Taneum trails.

Here I a nice shot that I took about 30 minutes before the collision.

Close call Stu. Glad you both walked away with minimal damage. Hope it doesn't turn you off riding for too long. Always one of my biggest fears too.. I usually try and avoid riding weekends just to keep the odds down. Probably negated by the fact that I often end up leading. Riding by yourself again??

This time I was not riding by myself.

Wouldn't it be cool to have some sort of device that used GPS and all bikes had them and it would notify you if another bike was heading your direction. For example it let you know once you are within say 50 +/- yards from each other. Or maybe there is such a thing out there???

My biggest fear as well.... I've has a few close calls in the past, most of them has been it very dense brush area where I could not see through the forrest or brush.

I know that my rule of thumb is to go "right" and if the rider coming at me goes "right"....well, hope the outcome is clean!

Good luck.....and get back out there!

FREE slightly used front fender and left side lower rad shroud.... ;-)

A friend of mine was at belfair years ago (tahuya) and came around a corner head on into his girlfriends daughter - she lost a few toes.... :o

Bad timing - it seems that a rash of crashes or upgrades to '13 plastic has left the US stock depleted of rad shroud lowers :(

Just before a ride a couple weeks ago a riding buddy described his friends crash that left him with a broken neck, a number of snapped ribs ... basically the whole nine yards. We can usually wick it up in the spring and fall, but in the summer when the ferns are up and the foliage is thick our trail rides become much more sedate.

Gotta go left!! :D

Such a device would be helpful, but only if everyone had one. Could very well instill a false sense of security. Around these neck of the woods its typically some young chap on a mxer with metal mulisha stickers that you encounter coming towards you at warp speed. I ride really sedately on fire trail.. and probably now will take it a fair bit easier on the singles too.
