Help - Head Bolts?

Guys -

Need some fast help if anyone has a suggestion! What's the best way to get the bolt by where the coolant line comes in? I have all the other bolts loosened, but I cannot get a wrench or socket in there - space is too tight.

Was hoping to get my head to RB today, but not sure if I can make it

Any input greatly appreciated.

Take the socket that fits (forget the metric size) and grind down the outside of the socket evenly until it will fit is an option....
I was able to use the open end of a wrench to get mine off.

If you have a friend with a ktm ask to borrow his bottle opener wrench (seriously) it's for cylinder bolts. I am not sure if it's the right size though Most ktm guys have no clue what it's for but it should work slick it's a slim closed wrench

This!

...I don't recall having any issues with either of mine (2010/2013)

Removed it and I still couldn't get a socket or open end wrench on the silly thing. I ended up going to the local hardware store and getting a thin-walled 1/4" drive 12mm deep socket. It was still a tight fit, but I was able to get it removed.

Now I'm onto measuring the squish with solder...not as easy as it looks in Ron's pictures...lol.

Thanks guys!

Did you grind down the outside of that new socket?
Or at least that's what I did

Fortunately, didn't have to - the 1/4" drive deep socket was thin enough to fit between the water tee and bolt head - worked like a charm :D

Now I just need to get the head and squish tests over to Ron's...can't wait to get this done

Oh sorry. I missed that part...

I need to get mine there too. What did he say the turn around time would be?

Where is the clearance issue?

If looking down at cylinder head as if you were sitting on the bike the bolt directly to right of water outlet. I had same issue getting a socket on this bolt due to being too close to the outlet casting.

I need to double check, but I think I should get it back next weekend. Dropping it off today, so I'll reply when I talk to Ron tomorrow.

Stu - talked to Ron and it's between 4-5 days turn around; figure 10 days if you include shipping :D

Awesome!!!
Thanks - I am going to get mine ready to go tonight!!

I have the Lectron carb and Kelly at Motosportz really recommended I get this done. I have no plans on riding for the next 2 weeks.

Stu.. You're mad for not doing it sooner! Best $$ you'll spend on a 2T. I did mine after one or two rides on the new girl.

So what is your verdict? Have you road it since the mod?

I just got mine back today!!

Take a look at just how much he machined mine down... It's a good strong 1/8" of material removed from the outer flange!! Can't wait to ride her!!

I took a measurement and I came up with 2.25 mm that was removed from the flange area.

Nice one Stu! You'll be stoked with her! IMO the more its out, the more you notice the improvement.

The engine on my 2013 model is definitely stronger than the one on my 2010 model (both with modified heads). Could very well be the port timing too. I think once the old girl turns over 100hrs I'll bolt the 300 top end back on.

Shiny TSP love

Thanks Jake. That is good to know. I was a bit worried at first as I could not believe how much material was removed.

I wish I would have got a measurement like you did on your receipt. I am going to email Ron and see if he can share it with me.
