Highest top speed 250 / 300?

gasgasxc, I never said " think Aprilia" I said they have a similar power to weight ratio,
in fact if you look at the manufacturers quoted engine outputs the gasser has a higher
power to weight figure, which in turn would mean it will accelerate faster, and given
that it's lower geared even more so, simple physics, admittedly only up to acertain speed,
where the Aprilia's taller gearing and aerodynamics would be a factor.
If you want to talk ballistics here's some figures.

Aprilia RS250. Gasgas EC250
Engine BHP : 55. Engine BHP : 50
Engine torque : 38nm. Engine torque : 42nm
Weight : 140kgs ( dry ). Weight : 110 Kgs
0-60 3.04 secs. 0-60 2.73 secs
Power to weight 0.3938 BHP/Kg. Power to weight 0.4444 BHP/Kg

Which to reiterate the point makes it quite a hooligan tool!

I am extremely confident that the majority of riders who are familiar with both bikes agree that your statement is complete rubbish as I do.
This Gasser is a turd in the high performance 2 stroke realm.
The RS is a twin carbed V-twin dual exhaust monster of an engine.
You over emphasize weight ratio.
Most importantly you have no concept of "peak hp"
torque and speeds at which an engine spools up or the engines capability to pull against a load.
You wanna blah blah blah about horsepower you better familiarize your self with the engine and torque rpm curves of both engines.
But by all means keep embarrassing yourself with the whole Gasser versus Aprilla engine comparisons.I love it.

Ride one!!!
Then talk.

You are right, I was wrong.
I see much more clearly now.

Wow!!!

Whatever! I think it's you that's embarrassed yourself by totally missing the point.

Back to the original posts question, 91mph so far with 14/40 gearing on an 18" rear.

If I get any faster either in front of or behind an Aprilia I'll let you know.

We already know.

You could find a better example then the Aprilla RS to compare the mighty Gas Gas hooligan too.
That's all I'm saying.
You said Aprilla RS.That's what I heard

gas gas supplyed a 40 t rear with my 09, 300....
been running it on the road with 13/40, and its a good bit of fun... just running old knobby tyres still, but would love a motard set up.
gearing is all very close together, so really not a huge change in speeds, i can pull 135-140 km/h but she's bloody screaming and i wouldnt want to do it for long....
but, for round town and under 100km/h the thing is a bloody hoot!!!!

You won't be hitting those 0-60 times with higher gearing anyway it takes the snap out the bike gearing it to do high speed. I've clocked mine at 105mph flat out gearing is 14-40 and it's a 250, it's the 10-80mph zone where the fun is above 80 it's windy helmet lifts over your head lol,

Online gearing commander has been absolutely spot on for every sprocket change I've done for max speed also speed per gear

Just got my 38 tooth sprocket from Talon. Man does it look SMALL. Can't wait to see what she runs like. I plan on running the 13 tooth front simply because I have a bout 3 or 4 laying around.

What's it like in first gear with this kind of gearing?

I was looking at that site....good stuff. At the time I was only looking at top speed and more importantly RPM at 60-70 MPH.

So by what you're saying it will be like starting out in second with stock gearing. I can handle that.

Thanks

Dawg, did you have trouble with the rear chain guide?

Upon a cursory inspection it looks to me like the chain might rub the top where it bolts to the swingarm. I did not try the wheel yet though.

EDIT: put the wheel on, I think it will be okay but I'm still interested in your input. What I can tell you is 38 is the absolute smallest that will fit. The chain "just" kisses" the bosses of the hub where the bolts go through.

The operation was a success. I have 13/38 and took it for a ride. Wow, it's everything I hoped it would be. It starts out fine and cruises nice and smooth and a pretty good speed. My speedo is not working so I couldn't tell how fast I was going but it seems pretty fast. I don't know why people think a 2 stroke is no good for the street. Maybe it's my jetting but this bike cruises very smoothly.

The only cause for concern is that I changed the front sprocket too and the splines on the shaft are noticeably worn and the sprocket is sloppy on the shaft. Is this a known thing?

I have the same in my 06 200. One of the reasons that I started considering a new bike. I took it as a sign that the 06 starts to get old and worn out.

I'm interested in that. I'll also say this: I expected my bike to be sluggish, when you look at how small the 38 tooth sprocket is you can see that it will have less leverage over the wheel. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't.

That's fuel for your fire right there!
