How is the GasGas 125?

Brian Hasslen who is sponsored by Go Fasters has an EC 125 he raced last year. He loved the bike and they got the thing to really rip with a few mods and changes as I recall. Search though some of his posts here (or PM/email him) and maybe you can find the info. "Hasslen" is the profile name I'm pretty sure.

Here is a link to info on his 09 season from Go Fasters. You can also contact them of course and I'm sure they can fill you in on what was done to the bike.

That Halls Cycle link above still shows a new 08 EC 250 for $5300. Nice deal!

Yes, a 36mm carb would be a sensible mod. Honestly, I think that a 36mm carb, worked over by RB Designs, and the squish band mod should make the bike competetive at any level.

Warning, digression alert:

I think a lot of the Gassers that have been raced at the highest level here in the U.S. have had carb and head mods done by RB Designs for free, yet I have not seen it mentioned much, if at all. I think we need to give credit where credit is due. The Gas Gas bikes are great, his mods make them the best. Just my opinion, but I'm starting to see the behind the scenes stuff that goes into these bikes to make them competitive at a national level. I'd like to recognize LTR and RB Designs for making Gassers competetive.

RB designs is a few miles from my house so he will set the squish on whatever I get. He did my Husky also and commented on how close it was compared to the Gasgas or KTM. So for sure on a Gasgas it will get done before I even try to dial in jetting.

I also have a 36mm PWK on my Husky. It is a huge improvement over the TMX that came on the bike. Probably a more minor update on the Gasgas since it comes with a good carb. I thought I lost some top end with it but it could also be because the head mods increased compression a little. The chug is great for a 125 though.

Why do people get the carb mods done? Is it hard to jet this bike otherwise? I have found that with the vast needle selection and JD software it is easy to dial in a Keihin. I still might take my carb to RB some day.

I need to get a ride on a Gasgas eventually. If I don't fit then it doesn't matter how good it is. I do like a lot of things I hear about them but I went with the Husky last time because the ergos fit me at 6'2". But maybe a tall seat and some forward bar clamps could make the Gasgas fit.

You'd be welcome to try my bike anytime. We do live in the same state!

The carb mod probably isn't necessary for a bigger bike, but with a 125, getting that extra velocity at low rpm would help. I just think anything you can do to make jetting crisp makes a bike more of a joy to ride.
