I'm back & looking to buy

Hi, all I'm back from about a 2 year break (bad get off on a 450F) I used to own a 2006 ec250 and thought it was the best woods bike I ever rode. Now all my dirt bikes are gone and I'm looking to buy another woods bike. My question is how much have the 250's changed from 2006 to 2011. I was thinking of going orange this time around with a 2011 250xc from what I've heard the 2011 KTM suspension is way better then it was back in 2006. The reason I went with Gas Gas last time was the suspension. And if any body has ridden both the 2011 bikes I'd love to hear any opinions.
Thanks

Well, I'm not exactly what you are looking for but in the ballpark. 2010 GG 300 and when the suspension was stock (had it redone) it was without a doubt better then any stock KTM suspension I have ridden. Owned KTM 99' 03' 07' 08.

I got my GG from Lewisport near Manteca, great service.

Curious

if you thought your gasser was the best woods bike you ever had why are you considering anything else. Have you seen the new bikes?? heck on looks alone i want a new one
just wondering why your trying to be talked into a gasser?
I know the pumpkins are great bikes but you already said what the best woods bike was.

I have an 11 300xc and my opinion is that it's the best stock suspension that I have ridden. I changed the springs for my weight but left the rest stock. It's a plush magic carpet ride. I also have an 06 ec300, It might turn a little better but I'm wondering about how the new ec's ride.

I would get the Gasser 11 race model with the 48mm CC forks if I had the choice. The forks on the KTM are pretty nice units. I've ridden the KTM 250xc and it is very nice, and the revalved WP forks were a bit better than my revalved 45 zokes, no if's ands or but's.

Well a lot changed from 2006 to 2011 on the KTM 250xc & spending 6K-7K on a used bike I'm looking at options. I haven't really looked close at the gasser but my main question is what has changed on the 250 gasser from 2006 to 2011 ? The pic. I looked at of the 2011 the frame looks like my 2006. I'm sure they made some changes & I'm just looking for some info. I haven't rode the 2011 KTM but I'm assuming that it's a better bike then a 2006 gasser (for my needs) so if Gas Gas hasn't made any significant changes I'll go with a KTM. My 06 was fantastic in the woods the tighter it got the faster it went my only complaint was out in fast stuff whoops/jumps the gasser lacked a little no matter how I adjusted the sag or clickers I had a hard time setting it up for fast wide open riding. I know no one bike can be perfect every where and I'm looking for a bike that would give me something more in the fast terrain knowing I'll loose a little in the tight stuff. So please educate me on the 2011 gasser !
Thanks

My 06 had revalved zokes and I've heard that KTM forks are now pretty damm good and a good compromise for woods/wide open stuff. Did you ride a 2011 ?

Link,

There are significant changes between the feel and handling of the GGs I own or have ridden extensively. I love my 2000 EC even with the marginal forks as it is a fine handler and very predictable. My 2007 is worlds better than that when it comes to overall handling and feel. The suspension is really good for trails and you can put the bike anywhere. I've also spent considerable time on a new 2010 300 and can say that it is significantly better than my 2007. It has a much more nimble and lively feel to it that is not at all twitchy...Overall it feels lighter on the trail by a substantial amount. That being said, get what you want and enjoy yourself! Life is too short to not be riding so grab a GG or a KTM and have some fun!
