ISDE Update

heard he replaced it and got to impound on time, but they wont let him ride for a medal, just pride now,wow talk about not quitting, way to go billy!!

Call me a wimp. But I got all teary eyed when I saw Billy's bike.:(

I know Billy gave it 1000%.
The fact that he is there riding means a LOT!

Yup, Billy's still in, no medal, but he is still competing for his club team.

Way to go Billy!!!!

I got Billy to his plane after the Minnesota National and I wished him the best. I have been watching to see how he has been doing and was completely shocked about the bike breaking.

I got information from a very reliable source that said it was the Alum swing arm.

It just goes to show you what kind of person Billy really is! He is an outstanding guy that rides his butt off and has more determination than most folks that I know.

The Boomhauer house is still very happy with Billy and we will keep pulling for him to the very end!

Give em hell Billy!!!!!!!:D

Boom. See the image on the previous page. Definately the swingarm......

US Trophy Team is in 4th place now (by about 3 seconds) after running 3rd almost all week. It will be a nail biter for the 6th day's motos to decide 3rd place between Finland and the US. Keep your fingers crossed.

We have been doing well on the moto test so I hope that bodes well tomorrow.

I agree....a few months back on KTM Talk their was a photo of a 08 KTM that broke in half, right at the steering stem, some one pulled that photo and thread.

Looks like an extended brake resorvior cooler....

That pic of Billies bike ain't doing Gasser any favours.

Whats the finned doodad next to the kickstart shaft?

Oh they've already had some fun with that over on KTM Talk. I told one guy to give it a rest. I like KTM's (and lots of other Euro brands) but if I wanted to I could easily rattle off some nasty and not so nasty problems KTM's have had and still have.

That break could happen to any bike with the right hit IMO and doesn't really represent a design flaw. If someone want's to rip GG because of that well to bad about them.

All bikes have problems. We all know that. It's just with the KTM guys always taking potshots at Gasser we're always on the back foot. Same happens in trials with some guy, who's probably never owned a gasser, sprouting off something like: "I've heard there are reliability problems with Gassers". It gets up my nose. I've owned 4 gassers over 8 years and I have never had a single problem.

Like you Skidad I like KTM and admire how they recovered from their nearly terminal financial problems of 18 years ago to become the giants that they are now. But I prefer Gasser. I guess it stems from the Bultaco days.

I'm sure they are. Maybe remind them about the time when some SXFs in Europe were snapping steering yokes off, or the kid in Oz got burned up from the bogus gas cap. I had a 300EXC crack a subframe, with absolutely no help or support from KTM, hence my move to GG in '00.

Really, how often does this stuff happen, to any brand? If you build enough bikes statisticly you will eventually see something like this, even with the best design and QC. It could have been a number of things, maybe a stress riser set up from a previous rock impact, who knows. I had a Honda CR250R crack a swingarm, its rare but it happens. Its just a shame it had to happen to Billy now. Its such a small community if this happened here even a couple times you would have heard about it, and the design no doubt critiqued by the experts in metallurgy at KTMTalk.

That must have been Nate Kanney's bike that he grenaded at the enduro here in RI this past July.

Yup, both those issues were on my mental list of problems. I have plenty. The steering head/yokes were breaking in the US also.

In all fairness Kanney's bike hit a tree at something like 50mph. Somethings gonna break.

It's so awesome Billy is getting to finish the 6 day. Can't wait for a report.

I'd be letting them now that some of the wheel hubs on their '07 bikes actually shatter from 'overzealous' polishing. It was an issue reported in a small way in an Autralian Magazine over here when they did a write up on the '08's. :)

Hey guys, just thought I'd let you know I finished with a bronze. Ended up breaking my foot about 15 minutes into day 5 when I smacked a hidden concrete block (!). Tough event for me, glad I finished, but now I want to try again to get a silver medal! Right now I'm on Santorini (greek island) relaxing on black sand beaches and nursing my wounds. I'm headed up to Romania on the 12th to take photos at the Romaniacs then home on the 21st. Hoping the GasGas ride is still a go. With enough pain killers I can get my boot on then riding is fine!
