magic cloud happy dance

okay, i am going to preface this by saying that a) i am at the best of times a middlin' B rider and there is no way i will ever outride my stock suspension, and b) i am totally happy with the way my '10 300 handles. it is far and away the best turning bike i have ever owned, and after the sachs forks had some break in time, i even got used to the way they were working enough to tolerate them most places without complaint.

but still, i'm a geek, and i like nice stuff. and i noticed that the awesome turning manners tended to come at the expense of a bit of headshake when coming off the throttle in higher gears. also, i had a couple people who are the salt of the earth good folks offer me some deals i couldn't pass up.

now, i am happy as a pig in shit (albeit a pig with a taste for gold anodized aluminum and a newly reduced wallet size). i have no reason to ever complain about anything ever again as far as the front end of my bike is concerned. haven't had a chance to even fire it up yet because work has me well and truly by the balls, but i had to show it off somewhere. thanks for reading! :

Nice. Which unit is that?
Ballpark price?

That's the Ohlins damper. It's pretty cool. It doesn't have a post that has to be bolted to the frame or around the steering head. The post mount replaces the bearing race in the steering head. Then the bearing goes in place and when everything is tightened down it holds the post in place. I'm not sure on the price but I think it's around $800.

damper AND cartridges...

damper came first, retail on them runs around $699. it's pretty darn nice. you can adjust deflection damping independently of return to center damping. i've used scotts and gpr in the past, and having the ability to run a lighter return than deflection feels (to me at least) lighter in the woods. desert, doesn't seem to make much difference, and having more damping in either direction is the go there. it's really nice that the whole unit tucks in under the bar mount.

the ttx cartridges arrived last week. i traded my firstborn child for them to a nice young man in texas. kid was getting kind of mouthy anyway, and wasn't pulling her weight at chores anymore. regular retail on those is insane, i actually began to have a seizure when i started to type it out so i'll just not go there. but they sure are nice. now i just have to wait patiently until mid august when work releases me from its teeth for a few days and i can go roost some high sierras (maybe the snow will have finally melted out by then, too!).

The steering stabilizer does add some wow factor. Makes the bike look real cool!
My bike will have to continue to look plain Jane . I don't know what I am missing when it comes to the stabilizers. So all is good. :)
