Messico v's standard gg pipe.

I also have a carbon fiber pipe guard for the fmf. It was covering a size able dent. The messico is dented worse. I'll have to send it off the fmf pipe i small enough I can fix it myself.

Let us know what you find inside:confused:

Acorns! Apparently there will be a hungry squirrel this winter.

I'll be doing the self repair on it. Compressed air to 25psi then I have a propane torch, but I also have a set of oxy/acetylene torches as well if I need more heat.

There is surface rust all over the outside of the pipe. Any recommendations on how to clean it up?

Any "Works"style pipe can be cleaned up.
Sand it down and scotch brite pad it.
Hit it with some I'D Red and wipe it clean.
Get the highest quality flat black or semi gloss ,if you like .
Highest temperature paint you can find.
Spray it with 2 coats.Light scotch brite scrub and dry wipe down in between coats.
You want 2 light coats.
Spray the crap out of it with WD-40 after the paint drys and use a fine scotch pad to wipe it down.
Leave it wet.Soak it. some more.
Take the butane torch and heat the pipe.
Wipe it down some more with the fine scotch brite.
Soak it.Heat it.Repeat it.

You'll get the idea.
Makes for a nice pipe.

My issue is I have a FMF gnarly and a messico. Both ate dented, but the fmf just looks better plus it has a carbon fiber pipe guard. The messico has surface rust along with the dent and the pipe guard won't fit.

Just don't know which one I want to run.

One more thing.
Unless it's a huge dent that really smashed or has mis aligned the pipe, I wouldn't worry about it.Most old school fast guys will tell you a dented pipe rips harder.
Fancy boys like looks and usually don't know shit.
Sorry.But it's true.
Don't get caught up in all that.

I like my bikes to look "good" and be fast. Knowing that is subjective.

Degreaser i have lots of.

My main concern with the Messico is the carbon finer pipe guard I have won't fit.

The fmf dent is right at the outlet and will surely effect performance. The messico not as bad.

What don't you like about plate pipes?

My bikes have always performed better with works style pipes.
Feel lighter although they may not actually be.
They seem to have a quieter sound as far as harmonics go.
And they don't rattle and vibrate as much as plated pipes.
They have a little more give when you whack them.
Although sometimes that equates to being more easily smashed.
You can fit them to the bike a little easier. There is some give there you can work with.
I think works pipes are trick and perform better over a wider range of engine characteristics.
They rip.

This is all based on personal experience.
I'm not saying one is definitively better then the other.

Thanks. I take peoples opinions and add them to my own research, both online and actual testing to see what works for me.

I'll most likely fix both pipes and try them to see which one I like better. I do know that bikes with MX style porting that are ridden in the woods do better with a gnarly to give more low end. These bikes have woods porting so my guess is the messico will work better keeping the slightly limited top end (as compared to a mx bike).

Just wish I had a carbon fiber pipe guard for the messico!
