This is the stock front tire that came with the bike (06 300) when I bought it. It's time to replace the b stone that is on there. I remember that I hated the m12 rear for my conditions and pulled the stock tires after just a few rides. I don't remember alot about the front. I ride a lot of roots and rocks and they can be slimey at times. This tire is in very good condition and it is time for a new front. would like to use it if I can. rermember lots of roots and rocks, if it rains then it is slimey if it is dry than its all dry and hard or hard/slick. Plan to run a rear tials tire this time fwiw.

Pirelli Scorpion Pro. I love this tire and it's even DOT approved but to look at it you would never think so. Works really well for me in New England rocks, roots etc.

M12 sucks for us wet rock riders, both F&R. Dry conditions OK. Scorpion Pro is excellent.

I also like the metzeler MC5 front, I have found it to be super stable in all conditions. We have a lot of rocks fixed and loose of all sizes, and sand.
cheers

Ditto on the Scorpion Pro. Great for mud, rocks, roots etc. I have yet to give it a real test on dry hard pack, since all it seems to do lately is rain. But yesterday was the first time on the trail all year when we had dust, but I had a Mich. S-12 on the front since I was on my other bike.

I like the M12 front for most everything here in NorCal, but I shred the side knobs off in short order making them expensive for me to use. I have yet to use a Bridgestone front tire that I like. I use a Dunlop 756 and feel it works well in NorCal and handles the transitions in traction and is consistant, which is all i need to be comfortable with it.

My area is littered with embedded sharp edged rocks. Couple that with a rider that steers with the front and you get tire carnage. I've tried a variety tires over the last few years and here are my impressions. (what I mean by "slides well" is the tire will drift controllably and not suddenly lose traction)

Metzeler MC4
Chunks in rocks, very good on a wide variety of surfaces, collects mud and it won’t sling off, doesn't slide well

Michelin S12
Chunks badly in rocks, squirrely on hard surfaces, great in mud and sand, very good on other surfaces, does not slide well

Michelin M12
Chunks in rocks and the carcass cuts easily, poor in mud and sand, pretty good on other surfaces, does not slide well

Dunlop D756
Does not chunk, but wears quickly, very good performance on all surfaces when the tire is sharp, slides well

IRC VE35
Tough tire - very good wear, equally poor performance on any surface

Pirelli MT83
Chucks badly in rocks, adequate sand performance, very good on all other surfaces, slides pretty well

Pirelli MT44
Disintegrates in rocks, very good performance on all surfaces, slides pretty well

Bridgestone M201
Wears well, talc-like dust and deep mud are the only surfaces this tire has a problem with, slides pretty well

Bridgestone M401A
Chunks in rocks, works well on most surfaces, does not slide well

Slides well? I read that to mean that it loses traction in a smooth predictable manner. That is why the Dunlop 756s and I get along so well. Other tires may work better for me some days, but the 756s do OK everywhere. As for the wear, they lose their edge and round quickly, but after that, the wear slows down. During the winter, when we get rain and have traction, I use new tires and the wear slowly. I swap them when they are about 1/3 the way gone. I use these same tires in the summer when it's dry and slick and use them up. I have several tires in the garage that I need to burn up, but no time to ride.

Big fan of the Dunlop 742 front combined with a 952 rear. Seems like the 742 holds really good lines in all the crappy jersey terrain. Switch from the 756's which I loved in the back but got crap wear and hated the front hands down on my 2 smoke but had a nicer feel on the 4 stroke.

Anyone who doesn't want their brand new front M12 take offs send to REVERUP he runs um and likes um. ;)

They chunk yes but at the rate I change tires it really doesn't matter. I like a sharp new edge at the races.

But I never run a M 12 in the back even if it was free. Worst rear made.

WOW. The M12 out here will put you on the ground faster than an UFC champ.

I'm with the Reverup on the M12 front. I really like it, and if I could get them cheap enough, I would over-look the shredding side knobs and just slap another one the rim.
