Milky tranny fluid?

this might be a dumb question, but when i look in my sight glass for the tranny, the fluid is an off white milkish color. what is it, and how do i remedy it if its something out of the ordinary?
this is my first bike, so pardon my ignorance.
Thanks!

eek. just how hard is the work described in your thread? should i change out the oil and replace it, then see if the condition still exists before i start taking things apart?

Yes. Also check that the breather nipples on the power valve chambers are snug.

so i got another dumb question, this does severly affect my clutch function correct? because my bike will move with the clutch pulled all the way in, and it wont idle with the clutch pulled in and in first gear, making woods riding very difficult for a beginner like me.

I may have figured it out! ok so the right hand powervalve cover. little tube coming off the top. goes straight up, then is zip tyed coming back down alog one of the radiator hoses. ok so water could have gotten in that way. but while i was out riding, i stopped for a break, and i looked at the hose. u put a finger behind it to pull a little on it to see where it led(this is when i first found it.) and it poped right off the nipple. so my goal for tonight: Wash the bike, take off the skid plate, get ahold of oil tomorrow to change it, reroute the vent hose back to the air box, change oil, put plate back on. that sound like a good idea? any other things i should do while the plate is off and the bike is clean?

You could also reroute the hose onto the frame in front of the tank and buy a short tank vent hose.A few of us have done this ,myself included.
Cheers Mark

get a skid plate that has a hole in it so you can drain the oil without taking the skid plate off!!! At least try and cut a hole in your existing plate. Make sure that the nipples that the tranny vent line and the power valve cover vent are nice an tight. A few have had water get past the nipples because the nipps were loose. can't have a bike with loose nipples!!

im only taking the plate off to better clean the bike. its a hyde, so it has the hole. and i thought guys were routing it back to the air box. the nipp seems tight, but the hose itself is loose.

time for a new hose maybe ... I ran mine back to the air box ... I also ran it up to the head tube and down behind the radiator too.

well i found where the water was coming from anyhow. that hose, even after not being ridden for over 24 hrs, was full of water. so i got my oil changed, got most of the major mud off of her, and put a filter in. gunna give her a bath tomorrow night and maybe find some mesh for the front of the guard to keep the mud out. so heres to hoping the water problem wont come back!
