Mixing paper and metal base gaskets?

Just wondering if anyone has ever used a paper base gasket on top/under an oem steel base gasket. I have both and I am adjusting port height. Should I use all paper gaskets for this? Or is it ok to combine the 2 materials for the base?

A what? In all my years of bikes I've never seen a steel base gasket? But with some master gasket or 3bond anything will work.

I'm just guessing it's one of those coated metal gaskets. I can't imagine why you couldn't mix and match if you're stacking different types.

If you are like me - only open the motor to do a rebuild - there should be no problem, but if you like to open motor more often (maybe to change rings only or some other weird reason) you may find that the paper gasket will stick and need to be replaced at every opening session.

Sorry if that last post sounded like a zinger, no intent to do so.

So polite ;)

I wouldn't think twice about stacking a composite gasket with a paper. There should be no issues at all as long as both are in good condition and everything is torqued down.

When it comes time to pull down if you've used a thin paper gasket it may take a bit extra time to clean up, but that's about it.

ok guys while we are talking base gaskets and torqueing, what and how do you get a torque wrench into the front bolts in the PV cavities to torque them to spec? I've just been using the "pull em till your knuckles turn white" torque spec, using a socket or wrench and it has worked well over a number of bikes and years.
