My first Gas Gas!

Just picked up a 2003 EC 250 . Haven't rode it in the dirt yet , but I got ten miles or so on the street. It has no trouble keeping up with traffic on the interstate, so the gearing might of been changed. It will do 80mph give or take a couple. It is street legal and has road tires with stock rims on it now, so I will need to switch to some DOT knobbies. Any recommendations? Also I put fresh gear case oil in it, and there was probably 1/2 quart too much oil in it. What kind of problems could that of caused? It seems fine, but I don't know what normal is. It has a some sort of cover that has "night" written in cursive, not sure what is under the cover, I haven't had a 2stroke in 15 years. I will try and put a picture up. Also thanks to everyone on this forum, I just found it and know I will find it helpful.

Just another picture. It has a FMF Gnarly pipe on it. What do you know about these?

Hey mate. Congrats on the purchase. I just bought my first gasser last year, and absolutely love the bike.

The cover with the script on it is an aftermarket higher volume power valve cover. They are designed to boost low end power/torque and smooth the hit out a bit. There's plenty of links on here about them and how they work.

If you drained the old oil and there was too much in it, then the previous owner can't measure properly :) they're not like a 4 stroke (if that's what you're worried about) where there may be separate engine and gearbox oil.

As for tires, it all depends on where you are riding it?

Thanks for the info. I plan to ride in Wisconsin which is fairly flat normal hills the dirt is kind of loose and sandy, and will ride about 15 miles on roads to get to the trail head.

$1500, what is your opinion, there is not much to compare it to. It doesn't have a title but it is plated through the duel registration process. It has turn signal switches, but no signals. I assume everything should be there to just plug them in? Do you ever have problems from cops not believing it's legal? Also where do you ride ? My folks live in LaCrescent, MN. I love that area down there. Where did you get your 2011 update from, and what does that entail? Can you put a pic of your bike up?

$1500 seems very fair for the bike. Mine has the turn signal switch too but I just use the "Harley" hand signals:D. I haven't had any cop issues as of yet. I'm from Frontenac and the best riding in the area is this weekend in Theilman on the state horse trails. They are open to bikes twice a year thanks to the Golden Eagles MC club out of Rochester. It's a must do!!! My transformation kit came from Greenland MX out of Spain? Gofasters in MN also carries them but at the time didn't have the one I wanted (only 6 days one). It comes with a 07-11 subframe, airbox parts, seat, headlight, plastics etc... It's fairly straight forward swap with some tinkering required.

Congrats and great looking bike!

It's crazy to me that you guys can street your 2Ts; the maroons in Oregon are completely anal about that...lol. What's funny is the GG200 I bought was from WA and it was street legal there

I just joined the GG fray last November and like it so much that I sold my wife's KTM 4T to get another 200 and convinced my brother-in-law to forgo the orange 300 for a red 250 - much like yours.

Have fun taking her into the dirt and onto the trails; that's where these bikes truly sing.

Yes it has a w.e.r. Steering damper. I've never had one on a bike before. Thank you for the info on the ride. I won't be doing this weekend but I will for sure do the fall ride. I really like that 2011 kit. When I need to get her pretty again I will be getting the transformation kit.

Good plan! Where do you live?

Same thing here. If I sold my MN titled bike to someone in WI the WI DMV would void the street title.

Spring Lake Park. It's a suburb north of Minneapolis. I will keep it at my cabin in Webster Wi, there are trails that start in Danbury and cross over to some state park in Minnesota.
