New 2012 GasGas

I'll second Motorhead on this. I ride with him and would love to see about the new GasGas 300's. I'm the odd man out in our crew riding a YZ250. Motorhead is on the newest gasgas in our group. I'd like to compare my wooded out 05 yz250 to the new GG300's to see if it would be worth selling my bike and spending 4-5 grand more to get one. With today's times and depreciation of a dirt bike a test ride would help make that decision a lot easier. KTM's are out.. I don't want to be orange like 90% of the guys out there..

Thanks...

You can ride my Nambo after Motorhead befor the IN national. I think you willlove the bike!

Sorry for the late replies. I'm in New England and have been doing a lot of driving and very little computer replies. Rode the Mudslinger Enduro on Saturday. Kevin Novello at Trail Rider says it's supposed to be the toughest enduro in the east. He could be right!
John O1: YES we feel good about 2012!:D
Flat 4: It's been fun getting the word out and the guys on this site have been a huge help.
Troy: No news on a 150 and I'm a little worried about bringing the 125s again. Sales on the 11's have been slow. We will get a 200.
GMP and others concerned about the filter: The one Rod and I were shown at the factory was foam. Look like they may have changed to another design. Remember this is not a conventional airbox. It is a cleaner box than conventional boxes. They have been using this design on the Randonne for several months now and I trust them to do this correctly. I will ask Txomin about the changes and how it works. Maybe I can get pics of a disassembled airbox.
Pretty impressive ride at the Mudslinger!

Clay,

I know the factory 152 is the preferred way, but could Spain be persuaded to offer factory 144 kit using the bore only? Seems like it would be a relatively minor R&D task, and could help open up the small bore market here. Just a thought.

Congrats on your ride! Thats tough even for the guys who live there. The Nambo's suspension obviously worked well, was it stock?

Thanks Clay appreciate it. If all goes well we will be there in time to take you up on the offer. From riding with motorhead for a while I am not worried about the common things people try to say "You can't get any parts for those bikes, you will have to wait forever if it breaks". Shoot most of the time he can go right into Halls and get his parts right there. For my bike at the local Yamaha dealer I have to order almost everything. No common parts on hand.. Hard to understand since the yz motor is basically the same since 99 and , except for the frame change in 05 the parts span is almost 10 years..

Thanks...

Clay,
I'll be more than happy to do the R&D on the 144 kit :D ....

I am going to do my top end this week and I'm gonna see how close a YZ125 sleeve will get to fitting the GG125...

If you're looking for a 125, I'm seriously considering selling mine so I can get a new 2012 GG250...

I know the Europeans look at the 144/150 as an odd bike. It doesn't fit FIM E1(100-125cc) or E2(175-250cc) rules. The 200 does fit the E2 class, so it's an obvious displacement choice. That said.... the extra displacement on a 125 to 144 makes a big difference. When I've ridden a KTM 200, it never seems like a 125 on steroids, it seems like a weird, pipey 250. I've never ridden a GG 200, but have read they are even more like a small bore 250.

I've had two Husky 125's and added a 144 kit to my '09. My 144 is the perfect tiddler on steroids, keeping all the good attributes of the 125 with more power everywhere. Husky would always seem to have too many 125's leftover, but sold the WR150 out almost instantly. The factory 144 kit for 125's was Husky's most anticipated performance part in a long time. This year Husky is going to split the difference and 125's will come with the 144 kit in the crate. Gas Gas could possibly do the same thing in the future. I know I'd already have an '11 Gas Gas 150 in the garage if it was availible.

My point exactly. The big sell of 250Fs is the added low end and smoother power. Big sales hit that decimated 125s. Now that everyone is figuring out the real cost of a 250F over the long haul, not to mention the added weight, suddenly small bore 2-strokes look good again but its hard to go back to light switch power. This is why the 144/150 is a good seller.

I have a GG 125 in the family available to me for cheap, plus another top end on the bench. I'd love to do the big bore thing but it has to be done right. Exhaust bridge is the biggest problem. Minor casting changes in a factory cyl would take care of this cleanly, like the Husky. The GG top end is VERY much like the YZ and not much different than the Husky either. PV actuation is the biggest difference, prevents the use of an Athena YZ 144 kit.

200cc's...hmmm?

Yes I also have the 144 kit in my '08 Husky,I have had the itch for a new 200 for some time.I like the looks,headlight,18"rear tire, kickstand, extra low end grunt for the unexpected hill, and all the other goodies that come with this new model.

Though with my Husky working so good,it's a tough call to pull the trigger..although if I get the chance to ride one,I could see me buying it on the spot!

Very cool to see all the new changes,I think you are going to see more used orange for sale.

Glenn,
I feel like their plate is so full that this would be the wrong time to ask for this unit. I will keep on pushing this.
The shock was stock. The fork had a slight re-valve. I think the Ohlins fork was a tiny bit plusher on the initial movement than the Zoke 48mm. The Zoke fork has much better bottoming resistance than the Ohlins TTX. I had the fork re valved a tiny bit to help with the initial plushness. The suspension on the Nambo is really good.

Hi new here (posting), but been lurking for a bit.

The 12's look good to me & I think the issue about the filter may be a non issue. At worst, even if it is cotton, all that will be needed is to cut up a piece of oiled foam & stick it upstream of the factory one. 10 minute job tops.

Just a thought.....

Good. I would think they should know better. Can't beleive everything you see.

Now, for the big question, the price?

My guess is that the foam air filter would be less than $30. :p The whole bike, that's anybody's guess.

2011 to 2012 hard parts transfer

I see that the 2012 has a new frame etc.

I have the following hard parts on my 2011 300EC:

Rekluse CoreEXP
Scorpion Racing Skid plate
Scorpion Racing Rad guards
Enduro Engineering Rear Rotor Guard
Straitline Handlebar Perch Riser to accommodate Sub mounted Scotts Damper
FMF Gnarly Pipe

I've only had the bike since June but have a line of guys wanting to buy it. I'd upgrade to the 2012 in a second if I knew I could take my aftermarket parts along with me.

How many of the above will make the transfer? I'm most concerned about the Rekluse having heard that there have been changes to the clutch. I called Rekluse today and they know nothing.....

Clay (or others) can you comment?

Thanks
