New Gas Gas 4-stroke Trials Bike

Side valve motors are torque monsters.
All those tugs you see at the airports have side valve motors.

I wonder why they called it a TXT?(same as the 2stroke)

WTF is a "lateral valve"?

Anyway it's an FI sidevalve. Pretty kewl looking. I suppose I'll be painting my Raga rep red now.

When I first started hearing about these motors last winter, that is what they were being called. Doesn't lateral mean to the side?

Old school.

IIRC, (or maybe it was "side valve") they were very common in 1920-ish +/- motorcycles and automobile engines.

This is the same motor designed that is referred to as a flathead? Right? I once owned a 1947 willys jeep that came stock with a flathead 4 motor...

The new gasgas motor should be simple design, very light with loads of low end torque - downside will be trade-off on top end power.

A friend of mine once told me something that comes to mind... "The dog of simplicity will piss on the tree of technology every time..."

For a trials bike it makes perfect sense. There is nothing higher on that motor than a 2-stroke. Who needs a DOHC motor? Its just like the 4HP Techumseh in your first "mini-bike" . Well, for guys around my age anyway.

I love that statement. Thanks Jeff!

I agree, which is why I'll stay two stroke as long as GG and other manufacturers make such fantastic premixers.

Drawing of motor design. This will make Briggs and Stratton proud!

That is the Four-Stroke I want. Not something I have
to rev to the moon. Now just make it a 500cc e-start!

That would be even more interesting (from a HP standpoint) if they put another set of valves on the other side and separated the intake from the exhaust to keep the charge cooler. Intake valves on one side, exhaust on the other.

Of course it would also be more complex. Nevermind. :o
