Newbie Gas Gas Owner

Hi All,

Jumped into the Gas Gas world today and bought a new 2009 EC 300. Never ridden one before, but did lots of research and browsing of forums (this one was the best by a mile) and when this bike came up at an amazing price I could not resist :D.

Owned a CRF450X for 2 years (sold it a year ago). It was just to much for me - heavy, slow in tight stuff and very tiring on long rides (not to mention all the maintenance). Also does not help when you are 40, but still think you are 17 something!

Anyway, I will let you guys and gals(?) know how I get on.

Keep on smoking.

Awesome, did not expect to get a response from a fellow GG Kiwi! :D

Live out West near Muriwai Beach.

Will do a few test runs at Sandpit to get the feel of the new bike. Can't wait! Picking it up tomorrow if I can manage time off from work.

Will let you know how it all goes.

Theres a few of us around, 3 in my close riding group, and a few others im associated with.
Did you get the bike from Craig Brown directly? I dont think there are any actual dealers in Auckland any more with the downsize of triplexmoto.
If you have been reading around the forums, then you should know about the issue with the 09 sachs fork being over valved for trail riding, I know a local guy who can will work on the sachs fork to downsize the valving a bit.

Cheers

Welcome to the site and GasGas bikes. I got my first GasGas a couple of weeks ago and it sure won't be my last; I love this bike.

Thanks Noobi.

Picked the GG up today and took it for a small run - felt very good. Great motor and so light! Well coming from a CFR450X, anything will problably feel better ;). Front was ok. Will let it break-in for a few hours and see how we go. So glad I went GG in the end. Got it new for $9K vs $14K for the KTM PLUS a 1 yrs warranty (1 month with the Honda!). Bike brought back childhood memories today :) . Love it.

Thanks John - First GG ride impressions has been great :D. Nice that it comes standard with some goodies (Fat H/Bars, Braided Cables, Frame Cover).

Go GG

Welcome,
We need some more NZers on this site ,no one believes us that a steak & cheese pie is a self contained complex carbohydrate sports suppliment.
Nice deal on the bike.Sure is purty boy,now squeal like a ktm front brake, yeeha!

Yes, it seems that Gasgas are very hard to sell in NZ, so you can get them for amazing prices. They do have some "idiosyncrasies", but they are such great turning bikes. You'll love it at Woodhill, especially at the Muriwai end where the Waitemata club run their trail rides, where there is less soft sand and whoops, and more tight twisty stuff. Welcome aboard!
Barry (South Auckland).

Guys, took the new GG for a good run at Sandpit. Boy was it good! Pretty surprised with the powerband - pretty good punch (unlike KTM 300) - reminded me of my old IT 490! Turning is amazing. Also did not get any major arm pump compared to my previous CRF450X - I could just keep on going!

Glad bike is not so shiny anymore - looks better that way!

Looking forward to some great summer rides.

One happy GG owner.

I'd be interested in hearing how you find it verses the crfx450. I've only ridden one for about 10 minutes but I quite liked it - felt so planted.

My CRF450x was a 2008 model. Never missed a beat. Ton of grunt - TONS. Was JD Jetted with Airbox mods. Solid bike with a very good motor.

In the open country the bike was a pleasure, but in tight twisty stuff it was a pig of a thing. Also after one hour of riding, I was dead tired. Never felt like you could just relax and ride the bike. Maybe the 250 would have been a better choice. Believe me when I tell you that you don't want to be stuck in a typical NZ Bog with a 450 - those extra 20kg feels like 100kg

Would be nice to have 2 bikes - ideal solution.

Before you buy a 450, ride it for at least a day before you make a decision.

Happy days :D

Good to hear theres another Westie on a GG!! Te Atatu here.. got mine durin winter so only really ridden it in the sand at Woodhill, looking forward to summer and some real terrain ridding!!

Thanks for the opinion EittianeNZ. I always wondered if I should have gone the 450 way, but you make me think I made the right choice.
You and BRADZE are gonna love your gassers at places like Riverhead and Maramarua - the tighter, twistier, rootier it gets - the bigger the smile. :D

hey guys i to went from a crf450x to a gasgas 300 and man im telling you i cant believe all the energy i was wasting from such a heavy bike. dont get me wrong my honda was bullet proof, never a problem(i didnt inflict:D )and ran completely perfect for 3years then the valves kept going out on me. i fought my 2 stroke buddies for the last few years arguing the four stroke side then rode my biddies 2010 250 six days and i literally put my honda up for sale that night and had it sold within the week. i bought mine a week later and never looked back. it easily made me 30% faster on tight single track however im still trying to climb like i used to on the old honda but it will come! these bikes are made so well i cant say enough about them, im definetly converted to the 2-stroke way:)

Why only two...:D

I have a Husky TE510 great bike but it was a bit much on the tight S/T stuff.

But...man I do love XC 300 it's amazing how an afternoon just floats by while riding...

Hope your like your new ride...sweet bike.
