octane booster

I go on rides that are long enough to have to refuel. One of our more popular rides takes us to Coopers Landing in Ardenvoir. They only have one pump, and it is regular unleaded gas. With my ec250 I need to use premium. So one guy suggested I carry octane booster, and just mix that in with the regular and premix.
Does this work? I don't like the idea of carrying petro with me unless I have to.Thanks,Bob.

Octane booster is usually pretty nasty - toluene.

I would run some mix with leaded fuel in your first tank (either av-gas or race gas) and then when you add the unleaded on top of it - the lead will boost the octane of the fuel you are adding.

Unless your bike has been modified it should run fine on regular. I add 1.2 gallons of regular gas at the midway stop on long rides and can't tell the difference.

Lower octane fuel is more explosive than high octane fuel, which is why it pings on high compression engines. If it doesn't ping, you should run the lowest octane available. Even if your bike needs the higher octane, you should be able to get away with fueling up with regular for half of a ride. If you start to ping, just downshift and run higher rpm. Try not to load the engine really hard. Unless you're going up really gnarly slow stuff, I'd think you'll be fine.
