Ohlins 46mm forks top cap removal question

Just about to pull the springs out of my Ohlins forks to see just what I have, but wondering about this special tool the factory manual refers to, I assume to engage the (2) pin holes in the top cap:

Can I use a generic adjustable spanner (adjustable pin spacing) to turn the top cap off, or should I opt for something like the factory tool?

UPDATE: Now that the temps are above single-digits I took a pic of the top cap assembly after I removed the top cap. Does anyone know how I can compress the spring support & spring so I can get to the 17mm nut?

Underneath that cup-shaped spring support is a what I guess is a bottoming bumper, and back to my original image, it looks like you have to compress the spring/spring support to get to the 17mm nut under the bumper:

Ideas? Is there a shop description of the procedure somewhere?
