I just bought a what the guy says is a 2000 250. After doing some research online it seems that a 250 in that yr should be red not blue. The stickers have all peeled on the plastic so I'm not sure what it is now. It has a number plate installed so no headlight. I have tried searching the VIN with no results. Was wondering if there was some common things i could check just to make sure of what i have before I start ordering a few small parts?

VIN:UTREC259806985069

The first two digits, "25" indicates it's a 250. Someone probably liked blue and swapped the plastic along the way.

if i remember correct... the 2000 250 i had also had a 0 in the tenth digit.. a 2000 should not have a separate air box door to get to the air filter, you have to take the seat off...

gofasters.com has helped me with vin id before, but call them, the online catalog on the older ones is tough..

Also look by the shifter on the motor it will say EC25 and some #'s below that.

Just for reference, I have an 06 300 with the red(250) plastic instead of the blue.

Prior to this bike, I had a 300 motor in a 250 frame.

That is why I would be more concerned with the motor than the frame.

You are correct. It has EC-25 a space and then 98. Followed by a series of numbers below that. I am assuming the 98 is the yr?

what forks? rightside ups would be 99 and before.
what brakes? brembo is 99 and before.

although the front end could have been switched out - this is the quickest way to tell without vin lookup...

Brembo Brakes. Would the 2000 model brake pads fit? I am assuming not because of having nissin calipers. Thank you all very much for the help

If you are in California you could get a green sticker.

Good Luck

Now if only we could get a plate...of course then the brand would balloon and sell a ton of units and then no more plate. Ah a vicious cycle.
