pipes, early vs. later years

FMF site shows a different part number for the Gnarly pipe 1998-2002 vs 2003-2006.
Does anyone know what the difference is? Is it minor enough that a person can make the older version fit on a '04? I found a good deal on an older version pipe for my kids '04 but am hesitant to buy it.
Thanks for any help.

If it is the pipe that is on E-bay and the auction ends
tonight. We are watching the same item.
I have a 99 EC and an 02 EC. I bought an FMF pipe on
ebay a couple years ago that was supposed to be for
the 03-06. part number 025032. I installed it on the 02
and it did fit with a little extra persuasion. I also installed
the FMF from the 02 onto the 99. It fit, but, the lower
mount did not line up.
So I'd say there is a differrence.
My 02 came stock with an FMF pipe. part no. 020118. And
that is the same pipe that is for sale on e-bay right now.
There is a good chance you can make the older pipe fit the 04.
But you may have to force it a little or have to live without
being able to use the lower pipe-to-frame mount.
Good luck. Jeff So. Cal.

DOH!

I didn't say anything about an E-bay item ;)
If it was for me I would have already bought it but it's for my kid and I'm done buying his parts when he ruins stuff being stupid. He's up camping with his newly smashed pipe and won't be back in time anyhow. Thanks.

Pacific Crest Pipe repair can repair it for $60.
FYI. They don't have a Gas Gas jig so you will have to tweek it a bit to fit the bike.

I don't know what he hit but it smashed it to within 1/2" of being flat and about 4" long, the rearward section has an indentention of the flywheel cover so it's actually caved inwards on both sides, looks like it was put in a vice. I can't believe the flywheel cover didn't break. The GasGas pipe sticks out quite a ways on the left side and he has quite a habit of nailing things with that section of the pipe. At this point it is so tweaked that you can see the 2 exhaust o-rings on one side of the spigot. He's up camping and still riding it (at least Saturday he was). He said it didn't have much top end though:p
I was up there Saturday and saw it. If they could repair it I don't think I could ever get it close to lining back up again.

Pacific Crest does a great job. I am still using my stock Messico pipe on my 99 EC200. I have sent in my pipe at least 3 times to them for minor to major repairs, every time it come back perfect. The mounting tabs are numbered when the pipe is returned, and it mounts right up, so they must be using something to true the pipe. $60.00 is alot better than buying a new pipe. Sure I could have replaced the Messico for the money I've spent on pipe repairs, but a the Messico is a conversation starter:cool:

They list GASGAS on the ording page.......Give them a try...

Josby. If you want the pipe, bid on it. I will hang
loose and let you have it. I was only thinking of
picking it up as a spare since it is a pretty good
deal. About the same price I payed for the one
I have on it now. Which, I think, is the one you
really need. Part no. 025032.
It ends @ 7:00PM tonight PDT.....oooh. I see
there is one bid on it. I hope that is you. Good
luck.
Jeff
