Price point climbing upwards??

anyone else following these folks efforts ?

This to me is 99% of the issue. It seems most US states have purposely made it difficult if not impossible for people to find places to ride. Also the penalties for "illegal" riding have increased dramatically. They have truly "criminalized" off road riding in the states which is probably most manufacturers biggest single market.

I know in NJ the fines are OFF THE CHARTS, along with losing your bike to impounding and severe criminal charges (criminal trespassing, felony eluding). They really throw the book at you these days.

I had a small dirt bike growing up and I was lucky if my dad gave me extra gas to run it, let alone take me to a dedicated off road park (also they did not exist at the time). As long as we rode in the woods and stayed off the streets, the cops did not bother us and if they did catch us on the street they just brought us back to our parents house. Unfortunately, my parents got frustrated the few times it happened and sold my dirt bike and never bought one for me again until I could afford my own.

Fast forward to 2015. My buddy a couple years ago was riding in the woods when they saw a cop in the distance. They kept going not thinking anything of it, when they came out of the woods the cop cornered them and gave them FELONY evading tickets. They paid $10k in legal fees and are now considered convicted felons for off road riding. How crazy is that?? It will follow them for the rest of their lives for doing nothing more than trying to blow off some steam on a dirt bike.

Along with the legal responsibilities (someone else getting hurt on your kids bike), there are just too many major liabilities out there for most people to consider the sport other than those who are diehard riders.

Our society is turning into a police state.

Harsh punishments, in the UK if you get caught riding illegally you get a warning that lasts two years. If you get caught again within two years you get your bike impounded and it costs $180 to get it back. Its the same amount of money as getting a ticket for parking your car illegally. Worse bit is they just take the bike and leave you where ever you got caught which could be 100's of miles from home and it your problem getting home they don't care.

I was running out of fuel and daylight on one ride so hopped on the asphalt to get home without having to push. Got pulled over by a cop on his big bmw ... he wanted me to teach him how to wheelie!!

(But I am taking special note of how things are in the USA and Europe so hopefully we can keep it like this here)

Mountain bikes can exceed $10 grand now. So its not like the motorcycle industry is the only folks with expensive products. As far as beginner bikes go you can have inexpensive bikes or bikes that perform but you really can't have both. Once you step up from say Yamaha TTR's and start putting better parts on a bike thay get expensive really quick. Most folks will buy a used GasGas, KTM ect before they pay $5000 for a new slower heavier bike. I still think Honda could out e-start on thier big wheel CRF 150R and sell a bunch of them. But I just don't see much traction with the AJP's. I could be wrong of course, lol I have been before.

This is what $9,795 Canadian dollars will get you these days - don't forget the 13% sales tax on top mind you ...

It looks like a sweet bike, but there is a french, blue, something or other blocking the shot.;)

Your post gave me a little chuckle ... all in good fun, thanks for the laugh ;)

I wanted a new bike and unfortunately GG has no 2016 offerings. If they did, they probably would've got my $10K - if they were at least somewhat financially stable. I hope they rise from the ashes. In the meantime, its Sherco time ...

I am afraid to sling my leg over one of those blue bikes they seem well sorted out for sure . I plan on getting out to South Mountian bike shop sometime soon since they let you test both the other brands . Since I have a 2015 ec300 it would have to be something different for me .390 430 450 Beta / Sherco ? Even when Gasgas gets going again I do not see a big 4 stroke in there near future . But for sure any of these bikes will be ten k not counting all the extras $$$$$$ my WIFE insist that I put on my rides ! That woman is the best 35 years of Awsum !

In all seriousness, the Shercos look like good bikes and I think the reappearance of the electronic power valve on the 2t Sherco and TM bikes is worth a good look and may have some merit. Europeans are competitive on both platforms...

Jason- did both you and Tim get new Shercos? I rode a 300SER last summer for an hour or so and really enjoyed it. They have GG stability and plantedness, but are more nimble(than my 2012) and come with a very good suspension out of the box.

Very nice, enjoy! Where is Sherco based? I thought I read they make some bikes in France and some in Spain.

Thanks. Sherco builds their enduro bikes in the south of France and their trials bikes in Spain.

Hey Brian,

Yes, Tim and I both bought 2016 Shercos. Not spent much time on the bike, but so far I'm pretty impressed. I'm gonna race it at the Codrington XC next weekend.
