I'm on my third Monster... I like 'em.

The S2r series monsters use Magura "fat" bars stock but I don't know how the top triple was configured on the earlier 900's. On the early 2000ish "M" models the bottom 7/8 bar clamp was cast into the triple so adapters would be needed to go to fat bars.

I'd be more concerned about the possible I'll affect on handling brought about by sliding the forks up in the triples far enough to mount clipons. Those older monsters were notoriously butt heavy so they generally benefitted from "some" lowering of the front end but one can go too far.

However I think it's possible that the forks protruded far enough to mount clips in stock config. Or, the forks could have been swapped for better adjustable units from a ST, SS, Superbike (common practice on monsters) At any rate I'd try and verify the geometry before getting to aggressive on that 'ole 900. I remember lots of talk about tankslappers and the "necessity" for steering dampers on those '90's monsters on the old DucatiMonster.org site.

Thats pretty good! I'm shocked at what I see some used Hypers going for. Low mile S models with the Termi 2-1 kit for less than $9K. From what I see the pre '09 Ducs with the Magnetti Marelli FI are much eaiser to get running properly (richer). The new bikes have a Siemans FI system with dual lambda sensors and the performance ECU retains them. This is BS because most of the lean issues that you attempt to address are caused by this. My neighbor is picking up his new '09 leftover Monster 696 tommorrow and will face this issue. For this reason a nice used Duc is a great buy.

Makes the bottom look more "finished"!! I'm thinking about one of these or a hyper if a deal comes around once the wife has a job..

Used Hypers can be had for very reasonable prices now. Its such a natural street bike for a dirt rider.

One thing about Hypers and Ducs in general is the steering stops on the frame are a joke. For this reason a lot of dropped bikes are totalled due to bent stops which is a frame replacement in the eyes of insurance companys. You can find bikes like this for salvage if you are patient and know what to look for. Many times just need bars, some controls, and some plastic. OEM Hyper plastic is $$ but is quite common on ebay now, even carbon replacements.

Nice job. Those mirrors are great, no vibration. I have the same with the lane splitter pivot.

FYI, for anyone looking for a Duc Monster/Hyper, the '08s were the last year for the Magnetti Marelli EFI. Now they run a Siemans system that uses a lambda sensor in each header. Unlike the '08 and prior where the performance or racing version ECU runs full open loop with manual (PC interface) trim, the Siemans system retains closed loop control, runs lean, and cannot be eaisly defeated at this time. My neighbor recently got a new '10 M696 and its a major PIA. The cats are in the cans and the bike gets real hot stopperd at a light. The only solution I can see at this time is going to wideband sensors/controllers with programable narrowband emmulators.

Also, the '08s do not use the "Red Key" system that married the ECU to the bike like on the older MM EFI Ducs, so its easy to grab a performance ECU off ebay or whatever, set TPS, trim and go ride.

that's good info GMP, I didn't get the magic red key with mine, had to send the ecu to ducati depot and have the immobilizer deleted, I had them add a new map to compliment the remus exhaust and igt air filter with lid mod.
