I've wondered about this for some time (every time I change my oil).

I got a 08 300 and on the bottom of the engine cases there are two allen bolts . One towards the rear of the bike (oil drain plug) and another towards the front of the bike . I couldn't find anything in the manual about this front bolt.

Does anybody know what its for ? and should I ever unscrew it?

Sorry to sound so stupid.

I remember reading something on it in our book and remember reading NOTto remove it. I'll check for you later today if nobody answers before then.

It is a drain for the engine. Just in case you drown the thing out. You can simply remove this plug and let the water out the bottom (or gas). Much less hassle than pulling the spark plug and kicking.

Thanks John. BTW were going to the farm this Fri , supposed to be 67 degrees or so . If you can get away from work your welcome to come.

Must have been typing the same time I was.

Thanks Mike , Should you ever remove it to just do normal oil changes ?Or is it not neccessary.

I've never drowned my bike ,but the other day when I drained my oil it was a olive color . Not what I was expecting.

Might have been good over some

Pasta with a little grated cheese.
That bolt is pretty cool for us U-Boat commanders- I've dumped my bike in rivers where it's completely under water- that bolt would be nice to have.

no, that's where they add the horsepower before the bikes leave the factory. Don't take it out unless you have a big enough catch pan :D

It is never necessary to remove the bolt unless you need to drain bad stuff out. Even if it gets flooded with fuel. I used it to drain coolant out of the bottom end when I made a mess whilst removing my head for the RB mods. Handy indeed.

I remove that bolt when ever I do an oil change....just to see what come out.....nothing has ever came out, since my GasGas does not like to swim;)

Good info guys. Biggs I wish I could get out of work on Friday. The problem in working for yourself doing outdoor work is when it's nice.... you work. Thanks for the invite and I hope to get in a few rides up there someday. We also won't mind clearing some trail before the ride.

LOL stainless I see bikes listed all the time with "lots of powerbands". I don't know how many you can stuff up such a small hole but they must be very powerfull!

LOL I see them advertised with different color power bands .

I hear the the red power bands are the best.

I once drove my husky into a lake in a race, it doesn't have a drain bolt so I pulled the plug out put the bike in top gear turned it upside down and turned the wheel a couple of rounds squezed the water out of the airfilter and then fired up :-)

Here in NZ we have some iconic gumboots (wellies to you poms) called "red bands". You would have to cut them up pretty small to be able to feed them up that hole, but it could be a handy place to carry them. Such is the reputation of these gumboots, I'm sure that even after being stored in tiny pieces up there, they still wouldn't leak.

When I bought my bike from the previous owner it had been drowned in gas. They had left the fuel on half the summer and all winter. FYI that is why I got it cheap . They couldn't get it started. Well I used a old trick . Take the plug reeds and exhaust off and flip the bike upside down. Then put it in gear and slowly rotate the tire. Well getting a birds eye look I found that bolt. How cool it would have been to find that first.:D BTW drained out about half a gal. of fuel.
