Quick Gearing Question

My '07 EC300 is currently running a 13 - 48 sprocket gearing.

What will the effect be if I go 12 - 48?

My logic (which is dodgy thanks to hitting a lot of trees) says that should be the same as 3 teeth up on the rear?

Thanks

The effect on mine was the front sprocket wore very fast and I didn't use 1st gear any more!

What I did discover, after orderting a front 12T, is that my bike shipped stock with a 12T. Grrrr

So Ive now ordered a 52T rear, which will give me what I am looking for.

Wonder why they gave me a 12/48 stock.... Hmmmm.

You're running 12-52 on a 300?
Do you use first gear?

Just amazed. I found 12-48 rendered 1st pointless for me on a 300 and I ride tight woods. I now have a 200 and have just gone 13-48 on that too. Tried 12-48 and again found I was not using first. I haven't ridden anywhere fast enough to find if it'll pull 6th yet though.

I run 13-48 on a 250 and think its too low. Just need to use that first more and make it worth it.

I have some snotty trails and find even 13-50 is overkill.

Yeah the Gassers have nice wide boxes. The only place I ever used first at 12-48 is if I stalled on a steep hill - saves abusing the clutch on restart. Going to 13-48 on my 200 meant I actually use 1st occasionally beyond starting as it's not too aggressive. Still not often as I find 2nd and a bit of clutch slip gives a smooth tight turn that allows you to get on the gas as soon as straight instead of trying to find the next gear.
