Rieju S.A. acquires that manufactured and sold models under the Gas Gas brand.

An agreement has been reached between the two Catalan companies that facilitates the sale by TORROT ELECTRIC EUROPA, S.A. of the intellectual and industrial property of the well-known Spanish enduro motorcycle platform that will now be manufactured and marketed under the RIEJU brand.

With this platform and under the GasGas banner, TORROT ELECTRIC EUROPA, S.A. launched the range of 2T models of 250 and 300 cc EC, XC and GP in 2017 and added the Ranger model in 2019. During this period TORROT ELECTRIC EUROPA, S.A. sold 4,500 units in more than 50 countries.

Models designed specifically to perform at the highest level in enduro and cross country competition, the result of which saw prestigious riders such as Christophe Nambotin, Antoine Basset, Jonathan Barrag?n, Danny McCanney and Alex Snow accomplishing international sporting successes such as the Enduro World Sub-Championship and the national championships of Spain, France and Italy, amongst others.

RIEJU, S.A. will manufacture the very latest enduro models at its plant in Figueres, and will begin distributing them from June 2020.

RIEJU, S.A. has a renowned consolidated trajectory throughout 75 years of history. It currently manufactures more than 12,000 motorcycles annually in its facilities in Figueres near Barcelona and exports 85% of its production to more than 40 countries.

From this agreement and reinforcing its position in the off road sector, RIEJU, S.A. will expand its current range of engines with larger displacement models.

Jordi Riera, "CEO of RIEJU, S.A."
"This agreement allows RIEJU an immediate presence in the off-road competition segment with larger capacity machines than usual for Rieju, as well as a significant expansion of our client portfolio, and important openings to new markets."

?We are very excited for this new adventure and the enormous challenge that this entails. We have enormous experience in our design, manufacture and distribution structure, so we are convinced that this project will be a success for our company. "

Jos? Antonio Lombard?a, "Managing Director of TORROT ELECTRIC EUROPA, S.A."
"We are very satisfied with this agreement, since it represents continuity for our local industry. We have valued the offer of RIEJU, SA over other candidates for its long history, its high production capacity and quality and because it allows us to preserve the manufacturing of these motorcycles specialist and support auxiliary suppliers in our territory.?

?Endorsed by the success of the product since its launch and its great acceptance in the market, we foresee that RIEJU, S.A. will have a great success in this new challenge.

acquisition

This has been in the works for awhile now but glad to see it finally signed.

Rieju is a 78 year old family run motorcycle manufacturer with a solid understanding of the market and the financial stability to do this right. Congrats to Rieju on the acquisition.

More information will follow in the months to come, but as i tried to say "between the lines" for many months, don't worry parts will continue to come for your existing models.

I am glad that Rieju will sell the brilliant EC's.

If the proper GG-Fans (Those that never would buy a KTM with GG stickers) will stand by GG/Rieju KTM will puke. At least I hope that :D

Woo-Hoo!!!!!

I ordered about $500 worth of parts for the mighty 2002 EC300 to ensure that it stays alive. (Remarkably, almost every engine part that i bought as a spare for the 2002 is found in the 2019 model. THAT is good for service longevity.)

This makes me very happy. I hope that GG North America benefits from this as well - I would be happy to see Mark and Co continue in their roles here with these bikes. I am pretty stoked!

Best news that i have had in a while.

Well I googled reiju and got all sorts of manga cosplay type hits. This may make ordering parts interesting.

Will be interesting to see if guys squawking about red KTM's will go out and buy one of these. 😆

From the looks of it, GasGas will not be in the Enduro market at all with red wrapped KTM's.

Good news for sure. Reiju does not currently distribute to the US though :-(
Hopefully that will change...

That's where Mark and his crew come into the picture. I don't see any reason why Reiju would not take advantage of Mark's expertise here, and use him as the importer. If Reiju has been around 78 years, they must know what they are doing.

My optimism remains high.

I agree.
The infrastructure is already established here in the US.

Still reminds me of the Indian brand Rajdoot. Perhaps they need a rebranding exercise.

PetrolPetrol? :)

Anyway this all happened to Husqvarna in the 90s when they were bought out by Cagiva and moved to Italy. The old factory rebirthed as Husaberg.
