Sad Gas Gas Wiki page

Anyone with some time and skill want to do something with the sad Gas Gas wiki page? I added a bit to it, but it needs so much more.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_Gas

Shouldn't we have something more like these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Husqvarna_Motorcycles

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Husaberg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KTM

If you have the skills and time, please consider helping out the sad, sad, Gas Gas wiki page. I would, but I don't have the time.
Maybe some of you with your own photos of 07 or 08 bikes could post a current model photo. You need to be able to prove copyright and ownership of the photo.

Sweet. Let's make that wiki page the second best source for Gas Gas information - aside from this site, of course. ;)

Now that Matt's back on board - we might get the gasgas wiki board up and running. I got wiki software up and running on the gasgasrider.org web server quite a while ago and matt had moved over many of the tech articles into this environment.

This creates an environment where all can contribute and keep tech articles up to date without waiting on the webmaster (me!)...

Where is it?

Hi Thomas,
I am not sure it is ready for public use yet. I think a few key members need to get the main outline and content set up prior to letting others edit and create content.

I will send you a PM with details so you can take a look at what Matt has done so far - if you would like to contribute some time to the project, then contact matt (mattr).

Definetly going to get a looksie by someone in charge.

Anyone have a photo of an 07 or 08 EC that they took to contribute to the cause?

Gas Gas owns the copyright to the images on the factory site. Wikipedia will not allow us to post manufacturer images unless we can prove we own the copyright. (Technically, anyone who posts the factory image on a website without written permission from GG is violating copyright law - unless you are an authorized dealer with a contract.)

It needs to be a photo taken by someone who is able to prove they own the right to the work, or willing to give their photo up to public domian.

With GasGas Rider's Club being a community site, we should decide if we should focus our efforts on the "www version" of the GasGas Wiki page or develop our "local version" of a GasGas Wiki page. Jeff mentioned that local version that I started. Last year I spent some time setting up the foundation that never got fully launch. It wouldn't take much at this point to just turn it on and let it drive it's own course. That's the concept behind Wiki pages... someone creates a topic and the community edits it's content. Pretty brilliant idea actually where everyone can author/edit content as needed. The community keeps the content correct and up-to-date.

There's pros/cons to both types of Wiki pages. If we use the "www version", we may want to limit the types of technical reports we would upload. Afterall, this knowledge comes from the group here and it's questionable if it should be distributed freely. In my opinion, it may be better to focus on the "local version". This creates more focus towards this site which afterall is our lifeline for all GasGas information. I would love to see the GasGas Wiki page be a key asset to this site, just like the technical pages or photo gallery.

What does everyone want to do???

To give you an idea of what the "local version" looks like so far...

FAQ's
  • Gear ratio
  • Premix ratio
  • Repairing tank inserts for shrouds
  • Repairing tank mounting hole at front of frame
  • Type of ignitions

Tech Articles
(under construction)

Maintenance Items
(under construction)

Bike Setups
  • Suspension baseline settings

Bike Modifications
  • Fixing the kickstand auto-retraction
  • Waterproof the ignition

Parts Crossover

--------------------------

I basically compiled a lot of the key information from this site, such as common questions, how-to's, etc., and formated them in a Wiki format. One of them which would be very useful is the Parts Crossover. This would start with our current information and would update easily as we find new parts.

The possibilities are really endless.

I would vote for the "local version". Keep all our eggs in one basket. :)

The english wikipedia page is a great place for generalities and new people who aren't familiar with Gas Gas when they do a search, or research.

That page can direct the diehards and faithful here. This place should be that grungy old comfy couch in the shop where we all sit and talk of greasy, Gas Gas things over a cold one. Spanish secrets, dark knowledge and omens of the future with sealed bearings and 2 stroke fuel injection.

Was that too dramatic...

sorry:rolleyes:

I'll plop that Australian GG site on the wikipedia page right now.

And a poster of Pomeroy on the wall.

Halaluyah!

By the way, I now proclaim the Gas Gas wiki page to be "Happy"!:)

Not finished, by any means, but it's now useful!

If you have anything to add, a couple of us are editing the page. Let us know if you see anything that needs adding or any glaring errors.
