Scott Genius Boots?

Has anyone out there tried these boots? If you have, I'd love to get a real world opinion of these. Specifically, are they "cloddy," meaning, how about feel of controls? Will my feet be dry at the end of a wet ride?

Thanks.

I'd like to know because in this case, price is no object. If they're truly wonderful, I'll get them. I'm sponsored by Scott, but other than the typical magazine hype, and of course the manufacturers hype, I have no idea. While they wouldn't be free to me, they would be considerably less money than any other boot I would consider wearing. Hence the question: Has anybody worn them, and are they any good?

Les' little brother had a set of the ones they made back in the mid to late 70s. Things that I remember are...

They were very hot in the summer time and he sweated in them alot. It's fine to have plastic ski boots when it's 20 degrees outside. When it's 90 degrees - would you want to wear a plastic boot?

He broke his leg twice while wearing them. To be fair, I think his bones were a tad brittle. My only thought here was that maybe in making things so rigid in the lower portion of the leg - this transfers the stress to your leg above the boot. Some things need to flex a bit to absorb impacts and not transfer the stress/torque somewhere else with additional leverage.

The older scott's were also very heavy in relation to the all leather boots available at that time.

I remember him complaining about the "feel" of the boot on the shifter and brake. Not enough 'tactile feedback'.

As you can tell - I am old school and probably won't be buying a set; I wear all leather hi-points with a steel shin plate...

I like a pivot boot, they can be made stiff for protection and you can still shift and brake with feel. Just bought new SG10s.

another thumbs up for the SG10s,just picked up a set on fleabay based on GMPs review a while back,no break in time at all, fits great waterproof so far, feels much like my SIDIs but not as bad on the graphics, paid 220.00 shipped for them and feel I got a great deal

Thanks for the feedback. I too have Gearne SG 10s, and I do like them, but the deal for the Scotts had me considering them.

Jeff, believe it or not, I had a set of the plastic Scott boots when I rode an XR 75, they were a hand me down, and I was just happy to be riding, it was my dad who made me wear boots and a helmet. I was happy to oblige, just get me on that bike! I honestly don't remember anything bad or good about those boots. I was hoping that after lo these many moons, they would have come up with a good design. I did read a couple of those reviews, and honestly the only thing that sticks out for me is that one review commented that they breath well, and hence leak. That would not work for me.

I looked at the Genius boots and wasn't that impressed.
There were too many over-lapping panels that can snag on your foot pegs etc. Once those panels are pulled out, they will stick out and cause more issues..

I'm convinced, I'll save my money. I like my Gearne SG 10's better than any boot I've ever owned. A close second would be my old Sidi's.
I was oh so close to going for a new bike just weeks ago. I'm over it now, and rewarded my decision to stick with my perfectly good, and flawlessly performing '01 GG 300 Ohlins equipped super scoot with the purchase of a new Arai helmet. Sometimes a little retail therapy is required.

That is my only issue with my SG-10's. I love the comfort and fit, but the top overlapping piece catches on my footpeg all the time. It could be a short thing (5'6")however.

I too have caught my boot on body panels (usually my fault to not re-adjusting the upper straps when switching between knee pads). The part that I don't like about them is that they are not at all water proof, simply getting splashed in the ankle area results in INSTANT wet feet. The other downside I have found is they are not that comfortable when walking, seems like a small thing, but when you spend 6+ hours arrowing a course, they become rather uncomfortable (for me) in the area above the ankle on the outside of the leg.

A friend and myself had identical broken ankles in SG10. I didnt even crash just had foot out in front in a fast corner that where the corner was low point and kinda G'ed out some. To look at the xrays of both breaks was enuf to convince me to change boot brand. The SG10's were the first non HiPoint boot i'd ever worn since i was a kid. Broke my left foot a couple times in HiPoints but that was from hitting hidden rocks at speed.

I broke mine bad in Tech 6s, basically because the boot was softer than the rock. I think you can do it in any boot. I have a pair of the ARC pivot boots, like cheap SG-10s. Even they have pretty good lateral protection, but the rest of the boot broke down too soft after a season. I'll let you guys know but this is the first negative reports I've heard on the SG10s.

I loved my SG10's until after that. Another boot might not have stopped that break, but the two breaks being so identical and happening in different situations was enough for me to have to question the boot.

I almost bought the SG10 boots. Very comfy I thought and the buckles worked really well. Here's why I didn't

1st The size 10 was juuuuust a tad to small. My toes were to close to the front of the boot and that could be ugly the first rock I jammed my foot into. Ordered the size 11 and it fit better of course but the overall physical size of the boot seemed so much bigger than the size 10 it was stupid. This really bothered me allot.

2nd There have been a fair # of reports that the spiffy silver stuff on the boot toung will peel very easily exposing the foam padding below.

Those 2 things prevented me from buying the SG10. I ended up with the Six Six one Flight boot. Size 11 fit perfect and the physical size of the boot was great. Has plastic in all the correct places (including the outside of the toe area...ALL boots should have this IMO) is VERY light and comfy and for $200 the price was right. I think the buckles could be just a bit better so I ordered an extra set to have on hand but no problems so far. I'm quite pleased with them after 1 season.
