shrouds and safety wire...

i generally safety wire the top front 'post' from my plastics to my radiator guard. this works well, but over time the safety wire slowly ovals the plastics/rips out. i was thinking of drilling a small hole in the protruding pin and using a zip tie to attach shroud to rad guards. - anyone try this? i would think the zip tie wouldn't rip out the plastics, and would work significantly better.....

I zip tie the top of my rad shrouds to the rad guards. It prevents wayward branches from tearing off/breaking the shrouds. The zip ties don't cut into the plastic.

I add a top shroud screw mount. Cut the tit off flush and drill hole in its center. It screws to the female side of a vibration isolator(same one as front pipe mount) that is mounted to my rad braces. This is solid while allowing enough flex to prevent the plastic from cracking. Works great, I'll do the same to my new bike.

I use Zipties.

They work OK most of the time. I lost a shroud in south NJ with them though, sapling pulled hard enough to break the tie where it passed over the sharp edge of the rad guard.
