Storm Sandy

Just been watching this on tele. Hope no one here has been directly impacted by the storms. Thoughts going out to all who have been.

Has GMP posted today?? He may not have power.. I only got 4-5" of rain and high winds gusts up into the 70's,, reports to the 80's but fall has hit up top and the trees do not have any leaves left.. If they had leaves we would have trees down everywhere.. just south of me is apparently mayhem.. I was just outside reattaching my vinyl siding.. moving some large branches and thats it.. Other than that today I'm cleaning the basement. Hope everybody else made it thru as well if not better than me!

I'm OK. Neighborhood is trashed, trees crushed cars, houses. On generator. No phone, cable, net( on my droid). I had to drive over neighbors yard between wires to get out of neighborhood and get gas a few towns south. Probably week without power. Have my gen hooked up to my '07 250 tank for longer run time. Rain was less than expected, which was good. I'll check back later.

Damn it Glenn !! You seam to always loose power this time of year. Hopefully all these extra power and line guys from out west and down south will get you fixed up quick!! My area is much better than expected. Maybe they will send those extra crews they got out your way. Need anything let me know!

Yeah, the new Halloween tradition! Well you know its tight thereon the lake with a lot of trees, and the main road is through the valley with above ground lines. Trees want to fall over on the steep slope. My house is OK but man what damage all around me. I tested and moved some wires myself just to get out easier. Haven't even seen a utility truck yet! A guy was pinned in his F250 when a tree fell on it and crushed it, unreal he's not dead. Hammer Run is very iffy at this point.

My next big purchase is a automatic generator, propane powered, that comes on as soon as its needed.. Then I can sell the one I got,, when there is a storm like this I bet I could get a lot for a 5kw genny..

We don't have the same yearly, or current storm troubles of the eastern seaboard. We do have a couple live volcanos in our backyard. I was here for St. Helens...Waiting on Rainier.

Glad to hear you are ok Glenn. From this side of the world and with my poor understanding of geography I still don't really know which areas and people may have been effected. Seems the world continues to experience bigger storms each year. It feels like just yesterday that cyclone Yasi was doing his dance.

Im glad to hear you family members in the NE are good. Let us know if we can help in any way.
Just so you know....my wife has red hair and is named Sandy so I have been living with the perfect storm for 27 years! I feel your pain!

As long as I can get gas for generator not too bad. BIG lines and stations with power are running out. My kids don't realize how lucky they are, with friends over, Xbox, etc. Not sure yet if my work has power. We have a dry ice supply and I'd like to get some for the neighbors. Went out for dinner at Mexican restaurant few towns away with power, saw the devastation of the shore on TV news, unreal. All I have for news is my phone. Jake, New Jersey is on northeast coast of USA. I'm inland in the northern part of the state. Thanks for your thoughts guys.

How far away are you from the Sparta area?

I have relatives that have a house there..

I'm right next to Sparta, a few miles. Still have no power, or communications. Some small sections of town do but its spotty. I'm on a lake, so tighter lots, narrow streets, and many trees. Its a big f'in mess like I've never seen. I'm still ducking under downed trees walking around the corner to a friends house. Moved some wires myself. Yesterday drove out to PA for a generator for a friend, gas cans, and gas. Estimate for power is next week some time! Right now I'm on my Mac through a mobile hot spot via Verizon droid phone. There have been reports of gas and generators being stolen. Good to have a couple of tough dogs, and keep the .357 handy.
