Taking up play in kick starter?

Until I'm able to get one of the YZ kickers for my EC200, are there any ideas for taking up the slack in the splines?

I had a thought of trying to use thread tape like in plumbing applications, but don't know if that would cause more issues down the road than it's worth?

Would using blue loc-tite be an idea?

Any other ideas?

Have you tried a YZ kicker yet? Mine went on snug, virtually eliminating any slop issue. Once you aquire one, you may not have the issue any longer. I was able to try a friends YZ kicker as a test for fitment...and immediately went and bought one(same day) the fit was so good.

I'm planning to purchase the YZ kicker, but it irks me to spend another $100 on something that shouldn't be an issue - especially since I already spent a big chunk of change on a bike that was essentially new. Between the gas tank, the damn kick stand, and the kick starter, I'm getting annoyed (nothing directed at anyone on this board, just my experience with the GG to date).

Until I'm able to find a good deal, I was hoping to take the slack out and minimize any additional damage to the shaft that's already taken place.

too bad

Do you have any freeplay between the hold down bolt and the kicker because of worn splines/ If so put an oring between the kicker and the hold down bolt/washer this will push the kicker back and remove some freeeplay
Maybe allowing less movement. I had to do this on 1 of my bikes that I bought and was obviously not taken care of
yz kicker is a standard mod, better in every way. as for the other things thats too bad because my bikes have been mostly rocklike dependable/trouble free in all ways
Check the internet (cheap yamaha parts)and you'll find the kickers for $80 just requires a little searching
Good luck

I hear ya...A friend has a '12 300. He went through the headaches, and now has a dialed machine with which I've rocked some cool mountain trails. I've yet to wave enough "bills" under his nose to make it mine. While I've had no issues with ergos on the older Gassers, I do rather enjoy the roominess of the late model versions. I'm especially fond of the E-start.

Must be a newer bike issue. I didn't have any problems on my Gassers.

You don't like the self retracting/shin mangler kick stand? :D there's a cheap mod for that too.

A few quirks with the Gasgas, but I think all bikes have things like that.

I felt the same way w/ my new 11' race 250 i had briefly- had gas tank, waterpump cover, headlight bulbs issues. I only put 12 hrs on it and sold it- Only 6 mths ago!

After selling, i missed it and realized how good it was. Quirks and all,-I am now owner of previously de-bugged 12' 300. I will be keeping this one a while. :D

Great piece of advice there; I grabbed a neoprene washer from the hardware store and put that on (in addition to the regular steel washer) and it removed the play.

I'm still going to keep an eye out for the YZ kicker, but it'll have to wait until after the Xmas stuff :D

I thought I suggested that in another thread ;) Good outcome!

The gassers have a few things that could be improved, however the niggles are reduced year by year which can only be a positive thing. Also once you invest the time in learning which tools you need to get things done and iron out the initial setup issues she will be a rock solid bike for many years to come. After all, what bikes don't need some more money spent on them in one way or another during setup.

I'm going through it all again with a 2013 at the moment. I'll likely bolt a YZ kicker on too. Not as a fix, but as an upgrade.
