Top end power/Stealth

Got my '12 very close to how I like it. Great bottom, mid, response, upper mid hit. It just doesn't seem to have the raw holeshot ponies at the top that the '07 motor has. Not bad but just not awesome. I didn't notice this at first because I was breaking the bike in and storms littered the faster trails with trees that are now mostly clear. PV opens all the way and what appears to be on a reasonable curve from looking at it with the cover off. CDI has been swapped for test. Static stator timing same as '07. I'm running the JD Blue needle in #4, and have been from 178 to 182 mains with no major difference. Plug looks lighter with a 178 after a high speed pass with the 178 so don't want to stay there. Maybe the bike just wants more fuel yet, the JD is a fat tip needle and the bike still runs clean with a 182. I'm also thinking maybe that Stealth has something to do with it. I ran one on the '07 for one ride and sold it, never really had a chance to evaluate top end performance but all else seemed OK. Anyone have any direct experience comparing silencers for top end power? Maybe the '12 pipe is just different, more of a lower mid tune.

The Stealth is by far my favorite silencer of all the silencers I have tried.

Cannon Quiet, Cannon Loud, Factory Cigar, TC2, a hacked up Factory, and the Stealth.

Honestly, the only difference in power/power delivery was the Cannon Loud. Maybe it was just that it sounded fast lol.

My jetting is good, but for as much time as some guys put into it I think I have tried 2 needles and swapped the main and pilot maybe 2 times. I played with the clip a little. Other than that never messed with it other than changing the idle maybe a little here or there.

I run the N3ch Needle and that made a big difference to me. Never tried the JD stuff.

I never had major issues jetting 250s, one reason I like them.

Another thing in the back of my mind is the gappy (by design) airbox, and the Twin Air inserts that came with the bike. I wonder if there could be a slight airflow issue WFO. I tend not to think so as no one else has said anything, the bike does not get rich feeling, but someone in Spain must have been concerned about it enough to include those things, even though nothing was ever said. Maybe I need to try a WFO pass with the seat off.

I have never had the honor of seeing a 12' up close. It could be worth a shot popping that seat off for a little ride on the road. I would get one sore arse if I rode my trails without a seat, especially since I ride an awful lot sitting down. :o

I ran a factory pipe on my 11 300 for 6 months and just swapped it for the FMF version and it seems to have a lot more on top than the factory one. I kind of fell in love with the bottom power of the factory pipe, but had an unfortunate collision with a rock that squashed it flat. Now I am happy with the FMF other than the clearance issues, but that just means that I have to be more aware of how/which line I choose to ride.

I rode without the seat for a short time when it fell off twice. Torquing up a rocky climb standing though, so no big demand for air. I could try it easy enough, plus an even bigger main.

Matt,

Tough to say for sure, some angles and bends are different but it looks close in volume. I put a 185 main in it tonight, I'll test it on the street tomorrow before heading out to the national in PA. It wanted the needle in a richer position than my '07 so maybe it wants a big main as well. In a couple weeks I'll have more time to play with different needles and have the head modified, that will help too.

The bike likes fuel! Quite happy with the 185 main, as it got the top end overrev back. I had more than enough top end on the fireroad connectors during the national yesterday. Fuel consumption is good too, at the first gas at 35 miles, bike took about 2 gal.

Cannon jetting

Djroggen, I am about to try out the cannon loud, currently using the stock "banana" exhaust.
I know that I will need to richen up the jetting, any ideas what I need to change? Richen up each circuit by one step or does it only affect one area?

I have the Cannon Loud & run this- I'm around 1200ft ASL
2010 EC250 Six Days ASII 38mm
MJ-180
PJ-42
Needle- JD red #3
AS-1 7/8 turns out
Slide-#7
Idle screw is wound in pretty good-2 1/4 turns out from spring bottom yields .737mm slide opening at idle
Bike starts great, idles good, & runs great if I had a squeak it would be that on a long steep climb, if I hit it in 3rd I get caught at the very top needing to clutch or shift down. Other than that no complaints.
