USA Gas Gas importer ?

Gas Gas has to hang in there, in the States I mean, all three of my dirt bikes are Gas Gas. 2-450's and a 300. I don't race, so I don't need parts all the time.

Future of GasGas in US

I can say after a certain phone conversation today that there is a couple of projects in the works and that there will be 2008 bikes in the US.....Its just a matter of GasGas Spain deciding the right course of action for the US.

So everyone, tell all the naysayers that we will have bikes, and parts in 2008.

That is the same positive news I heard Saturday at the TN National Enduro. I need some sprockets!

Thats good, because I plan to get a second bike and a GG 125 is not out of the question if things stabilize.

In conversation today with the guys from Dixie Sales, they told me that they will continue to sell and order more parts from GG Spain until at least Dec 31/07.

No bikes, just parts.

Looks like Husaberg got a headstart with KTM.

Taken from Racerxill.com:

KTM North America, Inc to Distribute Husaberg Motorcycles
- press release -

Husaberg motorcycles will be distributed by KTM North America in the United States and Canadian market on September 1st. Husaberg has been owned and manufactured by KTM Sportmotorcycles AG since 1997.

KTM North America, Inc. will form a separate division to ensure efficiency in distribution of Husaberg motorcycles. The new division, Husaberg North America, will consist of dedicated sales, parts, accessories and technical departments.

“Through the distribution of Husaberg motorcycles in North America, we now have the ability to better serve the dealers and customers of this unique brand. We are looking forward to growing our sales and bringing new innovative machines to the off-road enthusiast looking for a high quality European niche product.” states Jon-Erik Burleson, President of KTM North America.

Iron Mountain has taken both GasGas and Husaberg off their site. Here is the irony. I thought the whole issue was going green? Why do they still have the ATV's?

Don't worry I'm sure they'll be gone as soon as Dixie can get rid of that inventory.

Then they'll spin another announcement into "look what we're doing to save the environment - part 2."

"Captivated" by both O.J.'s latest shenanigans and Britney’s latest boondoggles, our beloved Circus Maximus—cable news media—isn't talking too much about the rapid devaluation of the US dollar.

With the Euro currently taking only $0.707914 to equal one US dollar…things are going to get interesting--both here and abroad.

Spain very well realizes that every market has a limit to the price(s) it will bear. And, how the US consumer will respond to a price increase that reflects the exchange rate difference will be a hot topic in Salt, over the next couple of months.

If you’re interested, you can thank a spendthrift Congress for getting us into this mess. And, please remember, “free” healthcare ain’t free!

With every bell and whistle made.

I saw that too and said...OUCH!

The exchange rates are going to make it hard to sell products from Europe really difficult.

I'm in Greensboro, NC, and just drove by the DSC location. I had no idea they were right here!
As far as going green, they still sell plenty of 2 stroke lawn and garden product!!

So, though I am not a GG rider, if anyone needs anything from DSC, let me know.

You have an extremely valid point; however, Spain could turn this around to be a win-win situation for their brand, here in the US.

Unlike KTM--who's parts are generally specific to the brand--Gas Gas owners enjoy "shared" resources from the Big Four Japanese manufacturers, as well as, after-market that caters to the Japanese brands.

As it turns out, the Gas Gas consumer benefits from a competitive selection, unlike our orange-riding brethren whose parts are specific for the KTM brand.

As it stands, KTM leaves their following no choice but to buy "orange" parts from "orange" dealers and suppliers. Even the after-market for KTM has an average 10% to 20% higher mark-up for this reason. They enjoy a "captured" audience, thus they take advantage of it.

Aggressive, "grab 'em by the balls" marketing is the key, here. Volume--while retaining a high level of quality--versus high prices, will do the trick. Let's hope our beloved Gas Gas finds a home that will take the brand to the next level, for everyones' benefit.

Time to capitalize on the orange gas cap disaster.

You're right, even though it may sound like we're picking gnat poo out of pepper, the gas cap issue is a big deal. Why the Fed's haven't jumped KTM's bones over this issue is beyond me. In addition, I'm amazed some sue-happy user/victim hasn't become a court-appointed "partner" in KTM, yet. :D

Spain has a lot going for itself here in the US; unfortunately, they haven't found the right person(s) to take them to the next level. Let's pray they do so.

A young MXer in Austrailia was badly burned when his '07 KTM SX caught fire after the cap just poped off. Another less serious fire was also reported. The only reason the Feds are not on it is that the bikes in question are not road legal. Now, lawsuits are another matter. If someone is burned here in this sue happy laywer bloated country you can bet there will be hell to pay, and in this case rightly so.

Their new quad has a brake defect and can't be delievered to buyers for weeks.

My personal experience, on two occasions, with KTM customer service is it just plain SUCKS. Also, everyone brings up the parts availability issue when talking about GG and even Husky compared to KTM. KTM seems to operate on a very lean parts inventory here in the US. Yes, good dealers have most things, and most common stuff is in the warehouse, but if it has to come from Austria you are SCREWED. Happened to a friend of mine. I also heard of a guy who blew up a 250SXF and the crank is months out.

KTM IMO:

very well made, high quality
very good marketing with the $$ to back it up
over rated performance, acceptable to some
apparantly works better better for a A/AA/pro that gets bikes and/or $$ to ride the bikes:D

I can't count the times I have heard guys/dealers say the KTM hardparts gas cap works great. WTF--why don't they just put that on the bike----ohhhhh it costs a rediculous amount and everyone is buying it extra!!!!

Buy the way---I rode an 06 EC250, my 2nd year racing it and just wrapped up the Expert 250 Championship in NETRA---battling right now for 4th overall but if anyone knows about parts availability its me and I have not seen an single issue with getting parts. And I don't need parts because they break I just wear them out.

Like what was said before there are so many crossover common parts it makes it easy to find common stuff.
Just a few I have worn out-
Throttle tube--honda
Cables--motion pro
Levers--honda---magura
Footpegs--yamaha
Front wheel bearings--suzuki
rear rim---excel
rear spokes---buchanan(sp)
Pipes---FMF if need be
clutches--DP--moose

These bikes are rock solid and stand up to a pounding--in fact I'm still running stock linkage stuff because the awesome seal(orings) are the best idea I've ever seen on a dirtbike--they just don't where out and lets the bearings last forever---I now think its a conspericy for any manufacture to install regular seals because they wear out and demand replacement bearings$$$$

This bike is awesome and the distributorship is killing one of the best all around bikes ever made!

Well here's the latest.....

Just got a memo that Gas Gas USA (the trials bike distributor) will be handling the enduro bike distribution, again.

This game of musical chairs these guys are playing is just maddening. Gas Gas USA was the original enduro distributor twelve years ago.
