USA Gas Gas importer ?

Well here's the latest.....

Just got a memo that Gas Gas USA (the trials bike distributor) will be handling the enduro bike distribution, again.

This game of musical chairs these guys are playing is just maddening. Gas Gas USA was the original enduro distributor twelve years ago.

Hmmm? Well that should be good, my dealings with Dale and Jim back in '94 were good when Dale brought in the original GasGas 125 and 250 with the TM motors.

Hmmm. Well that is interesting. Didn't think anything of it when GoFasters started carrying trials parts, but that does seem to link things together.

That news makes me feel better! Any time frame mentioned when they expect to get a shipment of 2008's in the states and start distribution? I'm ready! :D

Any word of a financing program? That is the only way this guy can afford a gasser, with two sons racing every week!

Steve, I assume you will be working closely with Dale on the Enduro line. If this is the case... we are all in very good hands. I worked with Dale at at a couple of the Duluth World Trials events. Bangup, no-nonsense, common sense kind of guy. He has a passion for the brand.

Good news.

Centralized parts and bike distribution from Kansas City?

Hey, he still has me listed as a dealer... we haven't dissolved our corporation yet... nah. I think I'll stay just a rider. ;)

Since Dale took over 2 weeks ago the following has happened.

The 07 and 08 two-strokes and four-strokes have all been approved by the US Government for importing as a competition motorcycle (one of the problems Dixie Sales was having problems with.)

The State of California is finally testing the FSR for emmisions.

FMF is building a two-stroke pipe.

Dale is also working on having FMF pipes and silencers to be stock on the 08 two-strokes as well.

As far as a financing plan for consumers goes I believe GE, HSBC and Sheffield have all been contacted on putting together a program.

We deal with all of the above financing companies on Yamaha and Arctic Cat consumer financing and notification usually comes back within 15 minutes.

FYI - if you are going to have FMF make a pipe for the 2 stroke - have it based on their SST design - not gnarly or fatty. The SST is more similar to the doma - which has very desirable power characteristics. This pipe would preserve the linear and broad powerband that differentiates it's power delivery from other (ugly orange) bikes on the market.

If you ask a customer what they want - they will say "a bottom end pipe" - but when it yanks and spins off the bottom, it feels faster, but isn't, and is more tiring to ride. I found the doma pipe to be happy everywhere, smooth, controllable, linear and man, on top, it "sings". The fmf sst pipe looks like a "doma copy" and would really "do the motor justice". Having the FMF SST pipe made in heavier guage steel would make it even better than the doma (more durable) and would be perfect for the bike.

Steve, is this suggesting that the favorable MSO is no longer available?

I have observed the same as Jeff. I have used the FMF, Doma and stock GG pipes. The Doma and stock GG pipes are nearly identical.

My real world dyno is a hill. On a steep dirt hill, my '01 XC300 with the FMF Gnarly was only able to pull 3rd gear at a moderately high RPM. When I put on the Doma pipe, I could pull 4th gear at a much higher RPM than with the FMF pipe in 3rd gear. It was a huge difference.

The Gnarly gives a big hit, giving the impression of power. It is not as usable as the linear, far broader output of the Doma or stock GG pipe in the woods or even in the open sand.

IMO the FMF Gnarly is step backwards from the Doma and stock GG pipe for woods riding and open riding in the sand. It would be a big service to GG buyers in the US for FMF to develop a pipe like the stock GG pipe or the Doma pipe. It would be a step backwards to put a Gnarly on the US GG motorcycles.

I like the stock GG pipe best for several reasons. Smooth power that revs out nice, thick construction, and a perfect fit to the Hyde combo guard. I like it so much I picked up a spare. The only thing wrong with it is its big $$$, like close to $400. The best thing FMF could do is just copy it, to the mm.

We are actually sending a Doma and a SPES pipe to FMF for them to test to base a SST pipe on.

It sounds like they will also have a Fatty and the thicker Gnarly pipe for the 07 and newer bikes as well.

It's still possible to register a GasGas, even without a favourable MSO. You just need to get the bike inspected, which is a PITA. I just went through this with my 2007 to get it ready for Chile (needed a plate, but I don't need to be street legal, so I made it street legal to get the BC plate, then made it into a six days bike again).

I'm not sure about the MSO being labled "for off road use only" but I'm sure we can address the issue WHERE ;) the phrase "for off road use only" will be printed if it has to be on the paper work.

I feel bad for you guys!

In NH you can take the MSO with the "for off road use only" label and make a title.

Here's how it goes.

Add a working headlight and brake light, rubber horn, mirror and take it down to the dealer. Have the dealer fill out the check list saying it has been converted for road use. Then take that checklist plus the MSO to the DMV and now you have a title. :D

May not be like this in a couple of years but we'll have to see...:(
