Just started going through the bike after putting 8 hours on it last week. As of today the bike has 22 hours on it.

Before last week the coolant was pretty and green like it should be...........

Why is my coolant sludge brown and very oilly?

Thanks

J

Bad water pump seal.....not a big deal but you should get more out of one instead of the 22 hrs.....

Well, maybe?

When I "found" the oil, it was by looking down in the Rad after removing the cap. It looked a little brown and I dipped my finger down in there, without a doubt it was oily.

Just drained my coolant.................it is as normal (green and non-oily) as can be. The coolant that came out of the pump might as well been brand-new, it was not contaminated at all.?
Thoughts?

Also, maybe I will order a impeller seal just to have on hand.......how big of a job is replacing the impeller seal?

Thanks!

Could be from assembly lube. Refill and check again in a few hrs. If a true leak, its more likely that coolant would be in the oil rather than oil in the coolant, due to the higher coolant pressure.

Got to thinking.............and was thinking the same: If there was a way for fluids to transfer then most likely the high pressure coolant would migrate to the tranny oil.

Drained the tranny oil: Its fine :):):)

Assembly lube.............. hmmmmm that would make sense

thanks to all!

I see the update. I might do the same same same thing..

Well actually the bike shop will do the same same same thing as they will have the bike this week to fix up the kick starter again. Will have to drain the coolant so will get them to make sure its all as it should be. Mine also appears to be just a fine film of grease/oil thats on top of the coolant. Not sure if its increasing with use though
