Winter 2014 Fund Raiser

Hi All,

The GasGas Riders Club is completely not for profit. All time spent by the moderators, administrators is "donated".

The Linux webserver for this website is managed by me and resides in "my garage". We do have the expense of comcast business class internet to my home to serve it and the expenses are about $100 per month; I ask for donations once every six months to cover these expenses. The last time I "passed the hat around" was last august and it's now "that time again".

bump... two very generous donations since my post two days ago...

Over the last six months we have had $635 in donations - some from dealers and the rest from a very small number of very generous members who typically donate $50 to $100. One person donated $200 during the period.

The breakdown is that a couple of dealers and nine members have covered the costs of this website for the latest six month period. This is a little disappointing to me - I would prefer to see a much larger number of folks kick in $10 so that everybody carries the load. There are 5000 members here and several hundred active on any given day....

I had to spend $100 to replace a battery backup (UPS) for the server last month - the expenses are currently about $100 per month -> which roughly means we need to raise another couple hundred bucks to cover my costs here - which I cover out of my pocket. All my time is currently donated - but frankly, given the situation - that may change.

p.s. Just an FYI -> I want to upgrade the comcast business class internet to my home to 50/10 from 16/3 - so the expenses per month will go up in the future...

Yes - dealers contribute - most new dealers I give six months for free. But I only ask that the dealers kick in $50 a year for a banner ad and they typically have zero $$$ in the winter months.... I'll hit them in the summer and try to avoid asking the users for funds. And even if a dealer can't kick in - I leave his banner up - it's good for Clay to have greater exposure for his dealer network and he kicks in generously every time I ask...

And we have now raised enough to cover the expenses - with a little extra in the kitty to replace the hard drive in a few months. I like to replace it every 3 years - the machine is up 24/7....
