Wtb 2005 Gg450fse Voltage Regulator

2005 fse450 regulator rectifier

After a failed ducati regulator on my 2005 fse450 I did some searching and found a shindengen regulator rectifier from a 1985 kawasaki zx600 to retrofit (my bike of choice in my youth).
To install you need to add a key on power source to power up the missing terminal in the GG harness. This will provide voltage feedback for proper regulation (or else it overcharges at 17v). The stock Gasgas connector fits the Kawi unit perfect but the GG harness is a little short. I cut the harness lead off of my Ducati unit and wired the short section I cut off the Kawi harness to make an extension harness of the correct length. Solder the harnesses together and use sealing marine or automotive type heat shrink tubing on the connections. I wired a feedback wire into the fuel pump relay fuse located next to the starter relay to prevent the 45ma ignition off draw that would be experienced if the circuit was fed constant power. The Shindengen part number is SH555-12 5.2 as printed on the regulator rectifier. I am sure other units would fit off of bikes with a similar 3 phase stator. The harness probably could have been adjusted to fit, but I was fortunate to have a harness to hack. Let me know if I have explained this well enough or need to post pics. The mounting holes are more narrow on the Shindengen unit so I made an extension out of a small flat piece of stainless. I was an ASE certified master tech for many years, so here is my .02 on diagnosing a charging sytem problem on this bike. With the bike running check for AC voltage on each of the three yellow wires at the regulator wtih the bike running and the connector unplugged from the regulator. Unplugging the connector prevents a false voltage drop that I experienced from shorted diodes. The voltage at @1800rpms was 13 and climbed to the ~50v when revved. The voltage should be within 1-2v on all the wires at the same rpm or you might have a problem with the stator.

I am using Technoresearch Direct-Link tuning software and created some maps that I would love to share and compare with others. If you have private questions or want to send/receive an injection map my email is technical.services@put hot mail here.com
